Ryan Hewins aces Street Stock main event to kick off big Oxford 250 weekend Friday night at Oxford Plains Speedway

Oxford, Maine – Ryan Hewins of Oxford raced to a close victory in the 30-lap Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy Street Stock race, topping the Friday night stock car racing card kicking off the 45th Annual Oxford 250 Weekend at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Hewins kept a stellar field of Street Stocks in his mirror throughout the race distance, with his biggest test coming from Uncle Kyle Hewins of Leeds, who lost second spot on the final lap to Norway’s Jordan Russell, who equaled his best finish in the top Budweiser Championship Series support division at the historic Route 26 oval track.

Jon Brill of Bridgton had a successful season debut with an impressive fourth-place run. Jonathan Emerson of Sabattus rounded out the top-five in a race that was occasionally wild and highly entertaining to the healthy crowd of race fans.

Jamie Heath of Waterford nailed down another 20-lap Bandits division triumph, outdistancing Waterboro’s Travis Lovejoy in a close battle. Championship contender Chad Wills of Buckfield was third under the checkered flag, with Shaun Hinkley of Oxford and early frontrunner Cody White of South Paris filling out the top five.

Ajay Cates of Lyman dominated the 20-lap Outlaw race, outrunning Limington’s Wade Gelinas to the checkered flag. Rick Thompson of Naples earned third-place spoils, ahead of Turner’s Zach Bowie and Jimmy Duguay of Lewiston.

Adam O’Neil of Lewiston cruised to his first-ever main event win in the Runnin’ Rebel class, holding the competition at bay throughout the 20-lapper. Waterford’s Jamie Heath chased O’Neil throughout the race befiore settling for runner-up honors. Lewiston’s Nathan Dubuc was the third-place finisher, followed by Travis Lovejoy of Waterboro and Bridgton’s Adrianna ‘Addie’ McDaniel.

Brandon Varney of Mechanic Falls picked up another win in the Cruiser class, outrunning teammate Will Dunphy of New Gloucester to victory lane. Phil Knowlton of Oxford, the division’s defending champion, was the third-place finisher, ahead of Oxford’s William Barker and Mikel Martin of Auburn.

Ryan Farrar of Oxford kept his perfect record for the 2018 season intact, winning yet another 20-lap race for the Sport Truck class. Arundel invader Jared Kimball kept things somewhat interesting, finishing a reasonably-close second. Norway’s randy green was third, followed by Sebago’s Kolby Morrell and Mark Grantham of Casco.

Breeanna Spaulding of Lisbon claimed victory in the 20-lap main event for Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy Ladies racers. Auburn’s Kathryn Childs led a good portion of the race and earned runner-up honors in front of Wednesday night winner Chloe Kiley of South Paris. Greene’s Susan Veinott and taylor Graffam of Hollis filled out the top-five rundown.

Kevin Varney of Mechanic Falls prevailed in the 15-lap Figure 8 race for four-cylinder cars. Kyle Hewins of Leeds was the best of the rest, with Greg Durgin of South Paris third across the finish line. Kevin Bishop of South Paris and Auburn’s Ralph Green rounded out the top five.

Thomas Brackett of Auburn won his 12th Rookie division race of the year, outrunning Brady Heath of Waterford to the checkered flag. Owen Stuart of Naples claimed the third-place trophy, with Brady Childs next under the checkered flag.

The 45th Annual Oxford 250 weekend, presented by Clark’s Scrap Metals, continues on Saturday night, August 25 with ACT Late Models topping the night before the 250 racing program and continues through Oxford 250 Sunday, with $50,000-to-win possible for Pro All Stars Series Super Late Model competitors towing in from throughout the United States and Canada.
