Trent Goodrow, of Carver, MA. is one of the young drivers this season, racing in the #31MA legend car. “What made me decide to run legends was the challenges that I would face. There are many great drivers in this division and the legend cars are one of the hardest cars to drive. That being said I knew I would learn a lot about car control and be a better driver.”
J&J’S YOLK & Co. is the new sponsor for the Granite State Legends Series. “My favorite thing about running in the YOLK Legends Series is racing at NHMS. The track we run there is completely different then every other track I’ve raced on. The front stretch is completely flat then center of the corner we go up the banking of the big NASCAR track, we run down the banked backstretch into turns 3 and 4 onto a transition back onto the flat. It was definitely one of the hardest tracks to learn.”
In the last 5 years legends racing has really grown in New England, with a number of short tracks adding legends cars to their weekly series, as well as 2 road course series, and 2 touring series. “Yes I do see the Legends division growing, with more younger kids coming up through the ranks of racing, legend cars will be the best division to run to learn a lot about car control.
Saturday and Sunday are reserved for race day, Monday through Fridays are generally spent in the race shop. “Almost every day of the week my dad and I are putting in countless hours to get the cars ready to race.”
Racing at different race tracks, plenty of work goes into the setup of the race car for each race. “There is a bunch of work that needs to be done to get the car setup for different tracks. Whether it’s changing gears, springs and many other small things to fine tune the car.”
The Granite State Legends Series currently consist of three race tracks NHMS, Speedway 51 and Monadnock Speedway. All located in NH. There are a number of short tracks in New Hampshire and New England, which could be part of the YOLK Legends Tour. “A race track that I would like to see added to the YOLK Schedule would be Oxford Plains Speedway. I ran there last year (2017) in my rookie year and had a lot of success there. That is a hard track to learn because there is really no grip which requires a lot of throttle control and no outside lane. It would also be cool if the Yolk Legends made a trip to almost all of the short tracks in New England.”
Along with YOLK Legends Series at NHMS, there is the MOAT Mountain Road Course Series, where the drivers race on the 1.6 mile road course. “Our goal is to run a few road course races towards the end of the season!”
