Connor Wenners, of Edgecomb, Maine is gearing up for another race season driving the #4 car in the NEFCP “4-Cylinder Pro’s Series, at Wiscasset Speedway.
Race season is almost here as Wiscasset Speedway drops the green flag on April 23rd though Connor has kept himself busy during the off season. “I played football in the fall. During the winter I like to snowboard, but this year hasn’t been the greatest!”

Last season Connor finished 13th in the points standing, including a win in one of the heat races. So what is Connors, plans for the 2016 race season? “I will be racing NEFCP at Wiscasset Speedway. Last year was my rookie year and I took some time getting use to the track and the car so I didn’t get to race the full season. This year I’m looking forward to racing all 13 races!”
With a heat win last season in the NEFCP “4-cylinder Pro’s the driver of the #4 looks to getting his 1st feature win this season. “I hope so!”
Every race track in Maine is unique in its own way, last race season Wiscasset Speedway made some modifications to the track making it wider on the back stretch. “You’ve got to keep your line and hit your marks. Hold on in turn 4! I’m excited about the changes at Wiscasset. The Jordan’s are working hard to make the track better.”
Connor like a lot of drivers got his start by racing in karts. So how do the NEFCP race cars compare to the karts he use to race. “They are a lot different than driving a go kart. Go karts don’t roll because they don’t have suspension. The steering is a lot touchier. My race car has a manual transmission so I had to learn how to drive that. The size is a lot different, that takes a while to get use to!”

The one thing all the race teams do in the off season is look for new sponsors to put on the race car. “Skip Cahill Tire will be sponsoring me again this year. Hawke Motors, T&D Variety , Pinkham’s Seafood, all in Boothbay. I’m working on a few others. We are also going to be putting a safety flag on the car this year. We had a lot of friends and family who wanted to make sure I have the best safety equipment. They can purchase a square on the checkered flag for $25 and we’ll put their name in it.”
