Waterford, Conn. (June 19, 2010): The Mohegan Sun Casino race team has never been more optimistic. After a solid performance in the UNOH 200 at Martinsville Speedway on June 6, driver Matt Kobyluck and his crew are confident the momentum will carry over to New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s New England 125 on June 25.
Kobyluck currently has 16 career wins in the K&N Pro Series East – more than any other active full-time driver – but he has yet to win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. His highest finish at the track is third place, which he posted at the summer and fall events in 2008, his championship season.
“When you have a good run it builds confidence for everyone on the team,” said Kobyluck. “We took home some good feedback from the car to apply at New Hampshire. Things that we do at Martinsville can definitely apply at NHMS as far as making the car turn through the corners and we had a real good car at Martinsville.”
This season, Kobyluck and his Mohegan Sun Casino race team have posted three top-five and three top-10 finishes in only four starts. While these are impressive stats, many expect to see a number in the win column for the 40-year-old veteran. Kobyluck’s last win came in 2009 at the Toyota All-Star Showdown more than a year ago.
“It upsets me to be honest with you,” said Kobyluck about his winless streak. ” We know how to get into victory lane and we know what we need to do to get the job done. We have always been trying – its not from a lack of effort – sometimes we just fall behind the curve. I think we’re heading in the right direction right now and we’re going back to things that we know that have worked for us in the past.”
Kobyluck has made a total of 28 starts at the ‘Magic Mile’ with six top-five and nine top-10 finishes. He’s led a total of 97 laps at the 1.058-mile oval.
“We are going to go there as prepared as we always do and we’ll do our best as far as knocking one off,” he said. “We ran well there last year and I don’t feel we have a lot to change from last year. We’ll have a few minor things to improve and I’m going to do my best to put the car in position for a win.”
The New England 125 takes the green flag on Friday, June 25 at 5 p.m. eastern time. Kobyluck will also participate in NASCAR Night with the Lowell Spinners, a Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, on Wednesday, June 23 at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass. In addition to pre-game activities, which will include an autograph session on the concourse, Kobyluck will participate in a softball game at the Park earlier in the day.
