Former Winner Files Surprise Entry
Barre, VT – American Canadian Tour sensation Joey Polewarczyk Jr., of Hudson, NH has filed his entry for the Vermont Governor’s Cup 150 presented by the VT State Lottery Commission this Thursday night at Barre’s Thunder Road. Polewarczyk will join multi-time Thunder Road Champion Phil Scott, Late Model point leader Nick Sweet, and Vermont State Championship Series point leader Brent Dragon as early favorites to take the cup.
Polewarczyk, who currently sits second on the American Canadian Tour, is preparing for a stretch of big races in the coming months. He has committed to competing in the Oxford 250, at a track where he already owns 2 ACT victories, and then will find himself in high gear for the second half of the American Canadian Tour season as he chases his first ACT Championship.
Joey feels like his team is in a good place heading into the Governor’s Cup. “Thunder Road is such a fun track, and I’ve heard great things about the new outside lane there, so I wanted to come and try it out for myself,” said Polewarczyk. “I really feel great about the second half of this summer. My team always seems to have a rough start, and though we don’t have a win yet, we really avoided that tough beginning to the year. This stretch of races is really good for me, so I’m looking forward to it,” he finished.
The last time that Polewarczyk competed in the Governor’s cup was in June of 2009, when three-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart drove a car from the Pole Racing stable at Thunder Road. Stewart finished 16th, but Polewarczyk dazzled with a dominating performance and picked up his first Thunder Road win in dramatic style, celebrating in victory lane with the NASCAR star.
Polewarczyk will bring a different ride on Thursday, however, driving the car of veteran racer Joey Laquerre. Polewarczyk has driven for him earlier in 2012, picking up a win at Canaan Fair Speedway in Laquerre’s Super Late Model, and will now look to bring a second Vermont Governor’s Cup back to Hudson, NH.
The fight for the Vermont Governor’s Cup presented by the VT State Lottery Commission begins this Thursday night, with qualifying beginning at 6:30pm. Adult admission is $15, and kids under 12 will get in free.
