Bob Seger Jr. of Frankfort started the 25 lap Big Enduro series race #2 in the 6th spot, but be the end of lap 2 was leading the pack around the 1/3 mile Speedway. Seger JR. held the lead for the remainder of the event that was stopped only once, on lap 17 when Woody Davis of Glenburn spun on the front stretch after being hit by a car he was overlapping. Alvin MacNevin of Clifton took second after also being spun by the same driver that caused the race’s only red flag. MacNevin was able to do a complete spin in front of the grandstand and continue on his way to the runner up finish. Shawn Racilla of Dover-Foxcroft placed third, followed by Woody Davis in fourth and Mike Slobuszewoki of Milo in fifth.
Garett Hayman of Milford took the lead in the 20 lap Little Enduro feature on lap 15 after a race long battle with Hermon’s Andrew Crosby for the top spot. Hayman ran the inside while Crosby ran the outside groove from lap 3. The two never touched as they ran side by side with Crosby leading most of the laps by less than a foot or two until Hayman finally powered his way to the front on the 15th circuit. Crosby finished a close second with Bangor’s Scott Bonney coming in third. Charlie McKusic of Abbott finished fourth with Neil Giles of Newburgh in fifth.
In the Ladies Division, 14 year old Emma Libby of Glenburn again topped the field after taking the lead on the second lap. Rhonda Wilbur of Hermon, the 2010 champion in the division, finished in second, about a half lap down to Libby. Kayla Allen of Penobscot finished in third with Nicole Smith in fourth after being placed at the rear of the field by the flagman at one point in the race for rough driving. Carmel’s Becky Elston finished in fifth.
Jim Carr Jr. returned to his winning ways on the pick up trucks as he raced from the pole to the win in the caution free 20 lap feature. Dana Harlow of Bucksport came from a sixth place starting position to finish in the runner up spot with Dave Gray of Dixmont taking third following a protracted battle with Bangor’s Roger Smith Jr. who finished in fourth. Fifth went to Jason Haskell of Levant.
Austin Clemons of Norridgewock, who is 15 years old and has two years’ experience behind the wheel, won the Stars of Tomorrow feature event over a hard charging Ricky Pease Jr. of Detroit also 15, who finished second. Ten year old Dylan Street of Old Town took his first top three finish in his second appearance in the division by finishing third. Caleb Kalel of Stillwater, also just 10 years old, finished in fourth with Dustin Chadbourne, 14, of Brownville in fifth.
Racing at Speedway 95 continues on Thursday, July 12 when Wreaths Across America and the Good News Center present the 2nd annual Ikey Dorr Memorial, a 50 lap event for Street Stocks. The regular Saturday night show will accompany the special as the speedway gives Saturday night to those who might want to spend the week-end at the Sprint Cup event in Louden.
