THUNDER ROAD MILK BOWL GETS FACELIFT

Waterbury, VT – Officials from Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, VT announced today a change in the format of one of America’s best-known short track events, the People’s United Bank Milk Bowl.

For most if its 47-year history, the Milk Bowl has been comprised of qualifying and three 50-lap segments, with a unique scoring system that crowns the Champion after the completion of the final segment. In 2010, fans will see a change in the number of laps to the Milk Bowl format. As usual, the first 50-lap segment will be determined from a pole and outside-pole effort in time trials.  The second and third segments have traditionally seen a full inversion of the previous segment, with the last place driver from the previous segment starting on the pole and the winner last. Beginning with the Peoples United Bank 2010 Milk Bowl, the event will look the same until the second segment when the laps will increase from 50 to 75. Again 75 laps will be run for the third and final segment, after the second segment inversion, making the new format a 200-lap Milk Bowl versus the 150-lap event of the past.

Patrick Laperle Steals Fall Foliage Win

Plattsburgh, NY – St-Denis, Quebec’s Patrick Laperle earned his second consecutive ACT Late Model Tour win and second consecutive Mohawk Casino Fall Foliage 300 at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY. Laperle led early in the event after starting on the outside pole but faded during the mid-portion of the event and went down a lap after spinning on lap 161. Current point leader Brian Hoar and Joey “Pole” Polewarczyk, Jr., spent much of the race running side by side, swapping the lead, much like last weekend’s Bond Auto Labor Day Classic. Eric Williams joined the mix late in the event. Laperle made a three wide pass for the lead under Hoar and Williams after the final restart on lap 285.

NHMS ACT INVITATIONAL ANNOUNCES MORE 2010 INVITEES

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) has announced another round of invited teams who have been invited to participate in the second ACT Invitational to be held at the regions largest sporting complex, the New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) on Saturday, September 18, 2010. The event will be held   as one of three preliminary events leading to the Sunday, September 19th first ‘Chase’ for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. The ACT teams will join the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the Camping World Truck Series in a spectacular triple-header event on Saturday, September 18.

The first group of ACT teams, selected a week ago, represented the winners of 2010 championship events and track champion candidates with a few ‘at large’ selections. This announcement is primarily teams from an ‘at large’ pool who participated in a test and tune session last month at the Speedway. “This group represents sixteen (16) more teams in the selection process. This has been one of the most difficult jobs I have had in the racing business. We had 71 teams test and they all did a great job. They really are all deserving of being part of the 43 team starting grid. That is the problem; there are only 43 spots for 71 worthy teams,” said Tom Curley, President of the American Canadian Tour.
