The rain-delayed NASCAR K&N Pro Series East’s Blue Ox 100 at Richmond International Raceway took the green flag on Saturday morning with Eddie MacDonald starting in the 11th position after a solid qualifying run on Friday morning. The 100 lap event originally scheduled for a 9:40 p.m. Friday start after the Nationwide race, moved to Saturday morning after a three hour rain delay caused the re-schedule. However, a leaking rear seal late in the race forced Eddie Mac to the pits with eleven laps remaining to post a 27th place finish.
“We definitely struggled in practice both Thursday and Friday morning so having the rear seal leak was the final icing on the cake,” said the frustrated driver after the race. “The car was tight in the corners from the time we unloaded and the tires would just chatter when I got back to the throttle. The nose would just wash up and I didn’t have any forward bite coming off the corners. We thought we improved when we ran a pretty good lap in qualifying but it just didn’t last in the race.”

One week after winning at Bristol Motor Speedway in the K&N Pro Series East’s third race of the season, Eddie Mac appeared headed for a seventh place finish in the Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 150 at historic Greenville Pickens Speedway. Some rough driving after a lap 145 restart cost Eddie Mac three positions over the last five laps to push the Grimm Construction Chevy to a tenth place finish. Despite the run, both driver and owner (Rob Grimm) gained one more spot into fifth place in the point’s race after four starts.
“We didn’t have the car we had last week at Bristol but it was decent and I thought we could get up to fifth but the # 4 car (Pena) nearly wrecked us,” said an unhappy Eddie Mac. “When the green flag waved with only five laps to go, the #4 car lifted my rear end off the ground and drove me sideways all the way down the backstretch. I even waved to him out of my side window but he did it again in turn one. Everyone thought he was going to wreck me but I was able to get it straightened out but the damage was done. I guess he really wanted that all-important seventh finishing position,” said MacDonald sarcastically. (Pena finished ninth)

“This win is fantastic and unbelievable for our team,” beamed Eddie Mac after outdueling Ben Rhodes in the green-white-checker finish in NASCAR’s K&N Pro Series East’s Pittlite 125 on the famed half-mile at Bristol. “Our team has worked so hard without muchsuccess of late so to get this win on this track is huge for our owner, crew, and fans. Winning at Bristol is a dream come true for any driverand I am humbled to win on such an historic track. It is easily one ofthe biggest wins of my career and I thank a lot of the people involved in this race team in helping me get this win.”
The Grimm Construction/Multiple Sclerosis Chevy showed promise during practice and eventually in qualifying. The #71 ranked 16th and 18th in the two practices (16.363sec-117.265 mph—16.334sec.-117.265mph) only two tenths of a second behind the leader on the fast, high-banked oval known as “The World’s Fastest Half-Mile.” On the second of two qualifying laps, Eddie Mac posted a 16.249sec-118.087mph run to start 13th on the grid.

A tire issue late in the Drive Sober 150 at Dover International Speedway on Friday in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East twelfth race of the season forced a 15th place finish. A tire problem last week at New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s Magic Mile ruined a potentially strong day and racecar. Friday’s finish cost the Grimm Construction/Multiple Sclerosis Toyota at least four spots at the finish line and a number of positions in the all-important point’s race.
Eddie Mac started the day tied with Ben Kennedy for third place but fell back to fifth place when the outer tire went flat when the green flag waved on the lap 147 restart with the frustrated driver saying, “I was really lucky to keep it off the wall in turn one. Last week we wrecked when the tire blew but this week we ran tires with inner-liners and that was the only thing that kept us off the wall. I just had to limp around the final few laps. The car was not great all race but we were in a position to gain a little in the point’s race. We lost a great opportunity last week to gain a lot of points and today definitely hurt us.”
