Eddie MacDonald returned to Thompson Speedway Motor Sports Park for Saturday’s Busch North Throwback 100 after an eight year series hiatus to post a thirteenth place finish. The Grimm Racing Team honored legendary Busch North driver Andy Santerre by displaying the Aubuchon Hardware paint scheme for the race. While the period wrap was a huge hit with Santerre and Busch North fans, the desired outcome was not achieved.
Eddie Mac started the 100 lap feature event in the 15th position and appeared to have a competitive car early on but the car developed a loose condition by lap 20 with the Rowley veteran saying, “It felt good early in the race and I was able to pass cars but then it really started getting loose so we decided to pit on the lap 31 caution for a minor adjustment. Even that little bit just flipped it and it was too tight. We made another pit stop but the car never got to where we needed it to be. In hindsight, we probably should have left it alone but we were trying to make something happen.”

Scarborough, Maine – Joey Pole, Jr. of Hudson, New Hampshire outgunned reigning Pro All Stars Series Super Late Model National Champion Ben Rowe of Turner, Maine on a pair of late-race restarts to claim victory in the PASS 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine on Saturday night.
After taking the lead on the 105th lap restart, Pole held off the current track champion of the oval they were racing on, Curtis Gerry of Waterboro, and a determined Mike Hopkins of Hermon to seal the deal. For Pole it was his first win of the season after winning three times on the PASS North trail last year, snapping a bad luck spell this year that has seen him fail to finish at least four races he was leading or had led due to equipment failure.

Lee, NH – Local racer Joe Squeglia of Derry, NH won the Seacoast 100 Granite State Pro Stock Series on Friday, following the fireworks at Lee. Squeglia was fast all day, posting the second fastest lap in practice, behind Jeremy Harclerode of Newmarket, NH. New dad, Jeremy Davis of Tamworth, NH also looked to be a contender as the previous winner at Lee and another that posted fast times in practice.
Squeglia, and Harclerode both won their heats. Davis finished second in his heat, and after the redraw they started heads up in the feature. Early in the race Squeglia kept the lead until lap 37 when Harclerode passed him. Derek Griffith of Hudson, NH started 12th and was quietly moving up in the pack and by the half way mark had taken 4th place. Luke Hinkley of Claremont, NH was 7th on the starting grid, but had to start at the tail of the field because a quick trip to the pits on the pace laps, also moved up the field quickly.

When the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East announced the race at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Saturday, July 8 would be named the Busch North Throwback 100, Eddie MacDonald’s first thought was to honor the driver who meant so much to the series and a young impressionable driver. K&N series official’s encouraged current teams to adopt a former Busch North team’s paint scheme. Both Eddie Mac and team owner Rob Grimm quickly decided to wrap the Grimm Construction Chevy in the Aubuchon Hardware paint scheme made famous by their legendary driver, Andy Santerre.
“This is very special that we are able to do this to honor one of the truly great drivers anywhere,” said Eddie Mac while preparing the car for the Thompson race. “I have always looked up to Andy as a driver and as a person. What made him so great just wasn’t just his incredible driving ability but the way he treated everyone. Andy would go out of his way to help anyone even though he was competing against that driver. He wanted everyone to do well and knew that made the series stronger. If there was one driver to emulate, it was Andy.”

Barre, Vt. – Washington’s Ricky Roberts earned his second career Thunder Road Late Model victory and the Maplewood Triple Crown at the Aubuchon Hardware Holiday Spectacular on Monday, July 3. It was the first Late Model win since 1996 for the veteran driver.
Roberts started on the pole of the 50-lap feature and built a sizeable lead over the pack. However, Northfield’s Matt White smacked the frontstretch wall on lap-39 while running third, marking the first of four late-race cautions. The yellows forced Roberts to first fend off Cody Blake and then Bobby Therrien on critical restarts. Roberts kept them and the rest of the field at bay for the win and the $800 Triple Crown bonus from Maplewood Convenience Stores.
