Charlotte, NC 8/20/12- The fans of the South Boston (VA) Speedway were treated to a barn burner of a race Saturday night as Kyle Grissom held off a hungry field of drivers to score his second win in a row and fourth of the season. Rookie Nate Caruth made things very interesting on the final lap before settling for second. The runner-up finish is a career best for the Iowa native driving for NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski. Jody Lavender in his first start of 2012 rounded out the podium with his third place run. (more…)
Barre, VT – After a tough season, Winooski’s Jerry Lesage vindicated himself in style with a convincing victory in the 50-lap Late Model main event at Barre’s Thunder Road on Sunday, August 19. Lesage had to fend off rising star Cody Blake, as well as three-time “King of the Road” Phil Scott to take his first checkered flag in over seven years.
Pole-sitter Ricky Roberts ran with the lead early, but by lap 23 the familiar #74 of Lesage had pulled to his rear bumper. Lesage flew high to the outside and snatched the lead from Roberts by the halfway mark, and ran from the pack. Roberts was then swarmed by Blake, who took over the second position, as well as Scott, and point-leader Nick Sweet who stacked up two wide behind him. Blake distanced himself from the battle, while Scott methodically worked by Roberts with Sweet taking away fourth in the closing laps. Scott Payea, defending Champion Dave Pembroke, Jamie Aube, last week’s winner Cris Michaud, and Brett Wheeler completed the top ten finishers. (more…)

Point Leader Struggles, As Cayer Strikes His Third Win
Rain postponed last weekend’s Texas Roadhouse North East Mini Stock Tour return to Monadnock Speedway until Saturday August 18. Although the date had changed the excitement was just as big. Emerson Cayer returning to his home track, the track where he had brought home many trophies. Shawn Swallow carrying the largest point lead of the season and coming off back to back victories. Danny Field on a streak on trophy grabbing finishes, as well as Louis Maher tuning in his brand new car.
As the gates opened and teams began to file down the hill to the NEMST paddock area the car count grew fast with numerous Monadnock Mini-Stock competitors throwing their machine into the battle in the mountains. Last year one of their own, Rich Fournier brought home the big prize. The only time a NEMST competitor didn’t win the event. (more…)
Barre, VT – On a night where tough seasons were avenged, East Montpelier’s Cris Michaud took his second victory of the 2012 season, fending second-place point man David Pembroke, and current point leader Nick Sweet off for the feel-good win. Three-time Thunder Road Champion Phil Scott took the fourth position, and Winooski’s Jerry Lesage rounded out the top five.
Lesage, who drove to the early lead, was quickly eaten up by hungry defending Champion Dave Pembroke, who stretched out to a massive lead just before the halfway point. High point drivers Nick Sweet and Phil Scott worked their way through the field, but a lap 33 caution for the spinning car of Trampas Demers bunched the field back together. Pembroke stole the restart, but multi-time Champion Cris Michaud clung to his bumper before swinging high and wide with 10 laps to go. Michaud stole the lead from dominant Pembroke, and survived a late race restart to claim his second win of 2012. Pembroke fought off Sweet for second, while Scott slipped past Lesage in the closing laps for fourth. 2011 Tiger Champion Derrick O’Donnell, Scott Payea, Brooks Clark, Ricky Roberts, and first-time driver Emily Packard rounded out the top ten. Charlotte, NC 8/14/12- This weekend marks the third and final time this season the PASS South super late model series makes their way to “America’s Hometown Track”; South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Virginia. The first trip in March was marred by rain after a Friday afternoon practice session, followed by a June 9th event that saw young Landon Cling, driving for Brad Keselowski Racing, pick up his first career super late model win. This weekend’s Southern Virginia 150 has all the potential to produce another first time series winner, but more importantly it could be one of the final times championship contenders race against one another with minimal outside influx as the season schedule hits the fall months of 2012.
