Scarborough,Maine-On a night with the American Canadian Tour visiting for a 150 lap race, three drivers chose the big stage and large crowd to post their first ever feature wins at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. The NASCAR Whelan All American Series took to the track first led by the 40 lap Pro Series feature race. Bob Gahan jumped into the lead from the pole position with young Joey Doiron in hot pursuit. Doiron moved around Gahan on the third circuit but Gahan would not go down easily. Gahan went back in front on lap 9 and held the position through lap 11 when Doiron went pack to the lead. A late race caution flag on lap 35 gave Aaron Ricker a shot at Doiron for the win but Doiron got a better restart and led the final laps for his first win. Ricker was second with Dan McKeage third. David Oliver and Bob Gahan were fourth and fifth place finishers.

Not to be outdone by Joey Doiron, Marcel Chauvette won his first career race following 35 laps of Sports Series racing. Andy Field led the field to the green flag and paced the field for the first 8 laps before Rob Herrick powered past him. Marcel Chauvette moved to the second position on lap 11 and quickly took to the inside oh Herrick to take over the lead one lap later. Racing stayed under green flag conditions for the remainder of the race and Chauvette was able to open up a comfortable lead to take the win. Carey Martin, filing the seat in the #85 this week got stuck in traffic and could not clear until the final laps. Martin finished second with Corey Bubar third. Dave Langlais and Rusty Poland were fourth and fifth at the finish.

Taylor Wins Beech Ridge Battle for First ACT Victory

Scarborough, ME – Farmington, ME’s Jeff Taylor claimed his first career ACT win after a race long battle with Wayne Helliwell, Jr. in the Beech Ridge 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, ME on Saturday, July 30. Taylor and Helliwell, both in Ford powered rides, swapped the lead seven times from lap 44 to the checkers. The two battled not only themselves but also heavy lapped traffic during long green flag runs.

With just three cautions during the event, Helliwell seemed to have the advantage on the restarts, but Taylor had the car to beat on the long runs. After the final restart on lap 134 Taylor finally got the edge and led the final 11 laps to take the win.

Donahue and Pembroke Tied as Thunder Road Season Winds Down

Barre, VT – Graniteville’s John Donahue and Montpelier’s Dave Pembroke are tied atop the Thunder Road Late Model point standings with just three point counting events left on the schedule. Donahue is aiming for his first “King of the Road” title, while Pembroke looks for his second.

The two have taken very different paths to the top in 2011. Donahue and his National Guard team started off the season on fire, winning the Memorial Day Classic and following it up just three races later with a win in the Vermont Governor’s Cup. Donahue has been the point leader for the majority of the season and lead by as much as 46 points. He hasn’t been lower than second in the standings all year.

Matt White Takes Fourth Career Win at Thunder Road

Barre, VT – Veteran Matt White of Northfield earned his fourth career Thunder Road Late Model win on WDEV/Calkins Portable Toilets Night on Thursday, July 28. White came from the third starting position and survived a fourth caution 50 lap event to pick up his first win of the season. He held off Mike Bailey, who came home second.

Lt. Governor Phil Scott worked his way from the 14th starting spot and got around Cris Michaud late to take third. Michaud and second place point man Dave Pembroke completed the top five. Reno Gervais, Trampas Demers, Joey Becker, rookie Jimmy Hebert, and Cody Blake rounded out the top five.
