PASS South Looks to Breathe Life Back Into Southern National

CHARLOTTE, NC (July 24) –  Southern National in Kenly, NC has sat dormant since November when race cars last raced on the 4/10 mile oval.  It marks the first time since 1993, when the Eastern North Carolina speed plant first opened, that Southern National has not hosted weekly racing action.  For many, it was a sad end to a great racetrack that had seen the likes of Denny Hamlin and Scott Riggs hone their skills before moving up the racing ladder.  But, thanks to the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models, Southern National will once again roar to the life.  Southern National will host race number three of the PASS National Series on Saturday, September 26th and is expected to bring in the top Super Late Model drivers from across the country.  PASS standouts Johnny Clark, Ben Rowe, Jay Fogleman, Preston Peltier and others are expected to be joined by former Southern National regulars like John Batten, “Big” Jim Kelley, and Shelton McNair.  This will be the first visit for the PASS South Super Late Models to Southern National since 2006 when Super Late Model legend Freddie Query took his one and only victory with the series.  The PASS National Series combines the best from PASS North and PASS South and helps to determine the PASS National Champion.  Cassius Clark became the first PASS National Champion in 2008.
