Oxford, Maine — Shawn Knight of South Paris nailed down his second victory of the season Saturday in the Budweiser Champion Series Super Late Model 50-lap race, topping the Small Business Appreciation Night card at Oxford Plains Speedway.

It was no gift for Knight, deftly working his way from well back on the starting grid to get by Turner’s Gunnar Rowe, who led more than half the distance en route to a seventh-place finish.

ACT Awards American Racer Three Stars for Oxford Plains 150

Waterbury, VTThe American Racer Three Star program is designed to recognize three teams in no particular order of performance that had outstanding races at American-Canadian Tour (ACT) U.S. Tour events. There are no specific criteria for deciding who might receive the award of a free American Racer Tire (value $125.00), but a special effort by a team, exceptional race, just plain old hard luck, or any other accepted reason is used to decide the award recipients.

 

The Three Stars are chosen by ACT officials and will receive certificates for use of a free American Racer tire at a race of their choosing during the 2015 season.

Packard Scores 6th Place finish as ACT Returned to Oxford Plains Speedway

EAST MONTPELIER, Vt. – There is just something about Oxford Plains Speedway that manages to bring out the best in 18 year old Emily Packard.  In the American Canadian Tour’s return to OPS this past weekend, Packard seemed pick up where she left off in April, bringing home a 6th place finish in her Northstar Fireworks/Packard Fuels 9ME car.

 

Short her regular crew chief (Neal Woodward) this weekend, Emily’s dad Ellery Packard stepped in to turn the wrench and help get the car dialed in.  “Dad was brushing up on his crew chief skills this weekend,” Packard said, “Neal had a prior commitment, and dad stepped in.  It took him a little bit to get confident on the adjustments he was making but he did a great job and it showed all day.”  In the first practice of the day, Packard went right to the top of the speed charts, and she continued to be fast through the last two practices, showing 2nd fastest on the speed chart in final practice.  “We unloaded and we were really quick,” said Packard.  “We made some minor changes to try to better the car a little more throughout practice, but it was good right out of the trailer.”

The NEMST made its way to Oxford Plains Speedway for their first feature event at the legendary facility Saturday Night. An initial gloomy forecast slightly reduced the car count to a strong 25 tour-style minis throughout the pit area. Early on in practice long time Oxford mini stock competitors Justin Larsen and Rob Greenleaf were turning the fast laps around the facility.

Matt Sonnhalter, Justin Larsen, and Toby Wells all won their respective heats with Sonnhalter drawing a 5 row invert for the feature event. After the invert Jimmy Childs and Nick Anderson would lead the field to green for the first time in each drivers NEMST history. The top half of the field was littered with long time fast Oxford competitors and invading NEMST drivers that run within the top five across New England.

Robbins & Robbins prevail atop weekly Budweiser Championship Series racing card

Oxford, Maine – Joey Polewarczyk of Hudson, New Hampshire entended his lead in the battle for the ACT Late Model Tour championship with his victory in the Dave’s Small Engine Ventrac 150 on Saturday night at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Polewarczyk prevailed in an aggressive, paint-swapping battle with Windham’s Brad Babb, who looked like a winner before contact from behind set off a chain of events which cost Babb the race lead and, eventually, any chance of victory.

Oxford, ME – Joey Polewarczyk Jr. won his fourth American-Canadian Tour (ACT) event of the season in the Oxford Plains 150 at Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday, July 25 after a late incident while fighting with Brad Babb for the lead.

Hudson, NH’s “Joey Pole” took the lead for the final time with four laps remaining after he and Babb made contact racing for the top spot in turn one. Babb slid up the track before gathering the car, but subsequently lost control exiting turn two and spun to bring out the caution.

After another caution on the restart, Pole held off a final charge from Dillon Moltz to complete the season sweep at the 3/8-mile oval and unofficially retake the points lead. The normally popular driver was then booed in Victory Lane.
