Adams, Tompkins, Childs en-titled

OXFORD, Maine – Travis Adams, Tommy Tompkins and Jimmy Childs each earned an Oxford Plains Speedway division championship with its own unique historical impact Saturday night.

Adams successfully defended his Oxford Networks Late Model title, becoming the first three-time champion in the class and winning the inaugural crown in the Late Models' reign as the top division at OPS.
Tompkins edged Sumner Sessions in a tight battle for the Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Strictly Stock championship, his first in a career at Oxford spanning two decades. He joins his late father, Joey "The Jet" Tompkins, as the tenth father-child combination to become OPS champions.

OXFORD, Maine – Five first-time champions were among 95 trophy recipients Wednesday evening in the ninth-annual Oxford Plains Speedway Acceleration Series awards ceremony.

Mike Ballard (Chimney Tech Outlaw), Tyson Jordan (Macdonald Motors Runnin' Rebel), Jake Burns (Call of the Wild RV Center Sport Truck), Vanna Brackett (Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Ladies) and Jamie Heath (Crazy Horse Racing Engines Renegade) walked away with the top hardware in the ceremony held for family, friends and fans at the start-finish line of the 3/8-mile oval.
Ballard claimed the Outlaw title in a tie-breaker over fellow mid-week racing veteran Steve Moon. Two feature wins were the deciding factor for Ballard, who has elected to end a racing career that began when OPS owner Bill Ryan introduced the entry-level Acceleration Series in 1999.

Hall, Ireland only ones to beat rain

Hall, Ireland only ones to beat rain, lightning;
It's double features for Championship Night next week

OXFORD, Maine – Lightning and impending heavy rain caused postponement of Saturday night's Championship Series event at Oxford Plains Speedway on lap 8 of the Mini Stock feature.

Grover Gundrilling Championship Night will feature the completion of that race, plus the Strictly and Late Model features, followed by regularly scheduled heats and features for all three divisions. The program will begin at the regular time of 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1.
Rain checks may not be used, as we had already completed eight full races.
Prior to the opening skies, Quick Super Cup Series drivers Fred Ireland and Rich Hall won twin 20-lap feature races for the touring division. Hall is a former Mini Cup champion and Macdonald Motors Runnin' Rebel competitor in the Oxford Acceleration Series.

Jordan rules Rebels after Hewins crash in title tilt

OXFORD, Maine – When Oxford Plains Speedway introduced its Acceleration Series nine seasons ago with a fraction of the cars that make it a speedway staple these days, Mike Ballard was one of the few, hearty souls lined up for the Chimney Tech Outlaw race.

Ballard has won more features than all but one other driver in the division since 1999, rarely missing a race and almost always finishing in the top five or top 10 in the series standings. But he'd never won a championship until Wednesday night.
