Scarborough, ME – Evan Beaulieu and the 56 Hancock Lumber team were back at their home track of Beech Ridge Motor Speedway this past weekend for the season opener of the Nascar All-American Series, Pro Series division.  After two weeks of practice with some promising results, Beaulieu and the team felt confident in their car going into week one. However, track conditions threw the team a curveball, as Beaulieu fought his way to a 14thplace finishing position in the 24 car field.

“I was really optimistic going into this race given the way the car’s handled the past few weeks at practice,” Beaulieu said of his night, “I thought for sure since we started the race on four new tires we’d be great, but the track tightened up a lot. I’m just ran the outside and drove the thing as hard as I could, and I’m surprised we finished 14th, we will take that and make the right adjustments for next weekends race so we can run near the front.” (more…)

May 23rd – New motivation this week would see some guys stepping up their game to win Outlaw race #2 at Speedway 95 this season. Series director, Derek Mingo wanted to see some new winners in victory lane, setting a $100 bounty for anyone that could dethrone 7 in a row winner, carrying from last season, Kris Watson. Duane Seekins and Shawn Hamel were originally planned to set the front row, but problems in hot laps put Hamel pitside before the initial green. This would move Joe Legere up to the outside pole for the 50 lap main event, and he would grab the lead from lap 1 and set the pace for the first 9 circuits. Ricky Burgess Jr,the heat 2 winner, would then make the pass for the top spot and look to be the one to beat as he started to put a sizeable distance on the pack. He would lead to lap 36 when he brought out the 3rd yellow of the night, blowing up in turn 3 and pulling down onto the infield. The restart would see 7 in a row winner, Kris Watson and Joey Doyon out front battling side by side, with Watson leading laps 37 thru 40 by a nose. Doyon would clear Watson for control on lap 41 until Joe Legere spun in turn 3 on lap 42, bouncing off Kris Matchett and bringing out the final yellow. Watson had one last chance to defend his series dominance, but Doyon was relentless once again on the restart, using up all the inside that Watson would allow, and making slight contact on the way to his first win, and collecting the $100 bounty that was set over Kris Watson. Watson was 2nd, and Kris Matchett 3rd. Dale Swoboda took a happy 4th, as he subbed in for Dynomite Dylan Street in the #30, and Mike Overlock rounded out the top 5.

(Hermon, Me) I was a full night of racing at Speedway 95 Saturday, as two visiting divisions, the Wicked Good Racing Association, and the Outlaws Super Series added to the regular racing at Speedway 95 on Saturday.

In the visiting Outlaws Super Series Ricky Burgess seem the car to beat, after taking the lead at lap 10, and holding on tightly until lap 36 when mechanical issues with his ride drew and the caution and took him out of contention for the win. Kris Watson of Hermon, looking to extend his season long streak worked his way up the field from near the rear at the start to 2nd place when the caution flag flew at lap 42. Outlaws race director had a bounty of $100 extra dollars to whomever broke that streak and Joey Doyon of Winterport took up the challenge, crossing the line first for the win, with Watson in second. Kris Matchett of Skowhegan finished third.
