BRENTON PARRITT TAKES 95 LATE MODEL FEATURE

Speedway95For the second time in the four races run in the Dysart’s Late Models at Speedway 95 this season, the feature race was won by mere inches when Brenton Parritt of Steuben held off a late race charge from 2013 champion Andy Saunders of Ellsworth, who was driving a car borrowed from Orrington’s Jim Robichaud. Parritt started the 40 lap feature event in the 8th spot, took the lead from Corinth’s Lloyd Nickerson on lap 7, and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Meanwhile, Saunders and Ryan Deane of Winterport worked their way through the field and became locked in a lengthy battle for the second spot, which Saunders finally won on lap 35. Saunders then set his sights on Parritt, but ran out of laps as Parritt crossed the finish line with his bumper just ahead of Saunders when the checkered flag flew. Saunders finished second with Deane in third. Nick Jenkins of Milo finished fourth with Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington finishing in fifth after recovering from a lap 9 incident with Nickerson that sent both cars to the rear of the field on the restart. John Kalel II and Nickerson won the night’s Late Model qualifiers.

Scarborough, ME – Evan Beaulieu and the #56 Hancock Lumber Chevrolet team began their 2014 campaign at the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway this past weekend. Beaulieu had to overcome an issue during his heat race and start the race in the 28th spot and finish 15th to open the season. After a rough race, Beaulieu was happy to survive the 50 lap feature.

“We had an ignition issue in the heat race and that put us back, that’s what I’m most upset about because we had a great opportunity to start well,” Beaulieu said of the finish, “We got too tight in the feature though and I couldn’t make much progress like I feel we should have, but this is our first full race with this car and we have some adjustments to make, we will get it.”

This past Sunday the Wiscasset Speedway held the Late Model Sportsman Coastal 200 presented by Jordan Lumber and Excavation Company. The afternoon was bright and warm, and fans packed the bleachers to watch the show. The group two divisions also raced on Sunday, including Strictly Streets, Thunder 4’s, and Mini Trucks. The Amsoil Nelcar Legends also made their second appearance of the season at the Speedway.
Twenty-five Late Model Sportsman competed in the Coastal 200. Starting at the pole was the #16 of Travis Stearns. Behind him were the # 23 of Dave Farrington and the #27 of Wayne Helliwell. Off the start Farrington passed Stearns on the outside to claim first. Helliwell and Stearns battled Farrington for twenty laps, but Farrington was able to keep the lead.

There was a caution during lap twenty. On the restart, Stearns passed Farrington on the inside of the backstretch and took first. Helliwell passed Farrington for second during lap twenty-two. Jeff Burgess of the #X moved up the track and passed Farrington for third on the inside of the backstretch during lap twenty-two. Then during the same lap, Burgess passed Helliwell for second on the outside of turn four. Helliwell fought back and the pair raced side by side for fourteen laps, with Burgess just ahead by a nose, until a caution was called during lap thirty-six. When racing action resumed, Burgess was passed by Helliwell and the #14 of Dave St Clair.
Stearns maintained his lead until lap sixty-one, when another caution was called. Helliwell passed Stearns on the restart and took third. Another caution was called during lap sixty-two but there was no leader change.
A caution in lap sixty-two caused a restart. Off the start the #30 of Ryan St Clair passed Dave St Clair for third. Burgess moved to the outside and raced Ryan St Clair, looking for a pass. During lap sixty-seven, Burgess completed the pass taking third.

BOSWORTH BROTHERS DOMINATE SPEEDWAY 95 SPORT-FOUR FEATURE

speedway 95Brad and Jayson Bosworth of Cornville led all 35 laps of the Coca Cola Company Sport-Four Series race #1 at Speedway 95 Saturday night, with a surprise twist at the end determining the winner. Brad Bosworth led the first 33 laps of the race with brother Jayson, Newburgh’s Darren Durrell, Milford’s Garett Hayman and Carmel’s Ted Ryder all fighting for positions two through five. When the third caution of the event stopped the action on lap 33 for a solo spin in turn one by Dixmont’s Lewis Batchelder, the Bosworths lined up on the front row for the restart and, when the green fell, Brad resumed his lead when Jayson missed a shift and fell to fifth by the time the field reached turn one.

As luck would have it for Jayson, the yellow flew again before the lap was complete when rookie Dylan Street of Old Town and Hermon’s Andrew Crosby tangled and spun in turn three while jockeying for the sixth spot. Because the lap was not completed, Jayson was placed back in the second position on the restart alongside brother Brad, who was still the leader. When the green flew, it was Brad’s turn to miss a shift, and Jayson assumed the lead which he held for the final two lap run to the checkers. Brad finished in second after a spirited battle with Darren Durrell for the spot. Durrell finished in third with Hayman finishing fourth after racing side by side with Ryder for the final laps with Ryder finishing fifth. Rounding out the top 10 in the 22 car field were Donny Silva of Hudson, Jeremy Scott of Carmel, Dennis and Becky Burns of Carmel , and Dixmont’s Lewis Batchelder. Heat race winners for the night were Jason Trundy of Winterport, Brad Bosworth and Jayson Bosworth.
