Mulkern Racing: PASS North Series
Oxford Plains Speedway Race Report
Scott Mulkern of Falmouth, Maine, posted a season-high finish of sixth in the PASS North Series Dunkin Donuts 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Saturday, July 21. Mulkern, making only his fourth start in 2012, was part of a two-car effort at Oxford as teammate Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, New Brunswick, finished 16th. Sommerville started sixth in the 31-car field, but he brought out a caution just two laps into the event when a loose part inside of his race car inadvertently shut off the engine. Mulkern started deep on the grid in 20th and had moved into the Top-10 by the halfway mark of the race, but his forward progress stalled out after a long green flag run. (more…)

Brian Hoar Oxford Plains Speedway Race Report
OXFORD, Maine – Brian Hoar of Williston, Vt., matched a career-best PASS North Series finish with a fifth-place effort in the Dunkin Donuts 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Saturday, July 21. Hoar won his first career Super Late Model pole earlier in the day when he won the first of three heat races to set the 31-car field, and he led on two different occasions for a total of 15 laps in the event. Hoar, an 8-time ACT Late Model Tour champion who will complete the weekend double by competing in the TD Bank 250 at Oxford Plains on Sunday, never dropped out of the Top-5 in the RPM Motorsports No. 37 GossCars.com Dodge Charger. Hermon’s Mike Hopkins started on the pole for the 100 lap John Phippen/Allen Fletcher Memorial race for Late Models at Speedway 95 Thursday night and led every lap until the checkered flag fell. Hopkins margin of victory over second place John Kalel II of Orrington was 1.28 seconds after a lap 87 caution bunched the field for the finish. Frank Moulton of Burnham finished a strong third with Brian Whitney of Burnham and Joey Doyon of Winterport rounding out the top five. Two cautions and one red flag slowed the action throughout the 100 lap distance, with 8 out of the 13 cars starting the race making it to the end. In addition to the lap 87 caution, Joey Doyon and Wayne Parritt of Steuben brought out the first yellow on lap 16 when they spun each other on the front stretch. Both were able to continue after a quick trip to the pit for repairs. On lap 39, Dale Swoboda of Hermon ended up in the back stretch wall, bringing out the red flag while crews loaded his wrecked racer onto a flatbed. Swoboda was uninjured. (more…)
