Granite State Pro Stock Series Heads to Unity Raceway

The Granite State Pro Stock Series will head to the Pine Tree State on Saturday, June 23 to visit the tricky one-third mile Unity Raceway in Unity, ME for race number two of the season. Over 20 cars are expected for the 112-lap main event and the series only appearance in the state of Maine in 2012.

Drivers from all across New England are expected to travel to Maine’s toughest oval, including 15-year old Derek Griffith of Hudson, NH. Griffith scored a second place finish in his first Pro Stock race in the season opening David’s House 106 at Monadnock Speedway.

All-time Pro All Stars Series kingping Johnny Clark tops Big John Phippen Memorial Race entry list this weekend at Unity Raceway

The second annual Big John Phippen Memorial Race, presented by Clark’s Car Crushing, highlights a Father’s Day Weekend doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Unity Raceway. Twin 59-lap main events for Maine’s Fastest Late Model class, offering $1500 to the winner, make up the Phippen Memorial main event.

Phippen, of Town Hill, passed away two years ago minutes after climbing from his racecar at Speedway 95 in Hermon. He racked up many victories at Unity Raceway, Speedway 95 and Wiscasset raceway, and was a champion at all three oval tracks during his long and storied stock car racing career.

Travis Stearns hasn’t competed in a full season of Late Model competition since his rookie season. Then again, he’s never gotten off to a start like this one, either.

Stearns won the 40-lap Late Model feature at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday night for his first trip to Victory Lane in nearly three years, just two weeks after posting a runner-up finish in the season opener at Oxford. After two races against a full field of nearly 30 Late Models each week in the early going, Stearns is the division point leader.

THE STORY
Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, New Brunswick, heads home when the PASS North Series turns to the PASS 200 at Speedway 660 in Geary, New Brunswick, on Saturday, June 9. Sommerville is a two-time winner of the the premier Super Late Model race in the Maritime provinces – the Auto Zone 250 – held at Speedway 660 each Labor Day Weekend. Sommerville took a turn in the lead in the first half of this race a year ago before a broken wheel took him out of contention, but he’s anxious to get his season on track in the Mulkern Racing No. 48 A.E. McKay Builders/PUB’s Bottle Exchange Chevrolet on the .333-mile, multi-groove race track.

RACE RESULTS FOR JUNE 1st AT LEE USA SPEEDWAY

Lee, NH – With threatening weather quickly moving into the area on Friday night, Lee USA Speedway track officials were in hurry-up mode from the drop of the first green flag, and entire program of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing presented by Mobil 1 went into the record books well before the rains came.

2010 champion and current points leader Tommy Tombarello, Jr. lined up eighth for the 30-lap Benson Lumber and Hardware Small Block Supermodified feature event, but he quickly worked his way through the field and took the lead from polesitter Tony Carroll, who had set the early pace while Tombarello worked traffic.
