DEANE SMART EDGES RYAN DEANE FOR 95 LATE MODEL VICTORY
Deane Smart of Bradley made his way from an eighth place starting position to be running in second when the caution flag flew with 7 laps to go in the Dysart’s Late Model feature at Speedway 95 Thursday night. On the restart, Smart lined up outside Ryan Deane of Winterport, who had led the event from lap 4. When the green flew, Smart and Deane raced side by side for the 7 lap sprint to the finish, swapping the lead several times, until Smart led the final three laps by inches, taking his fourth win of the season by about three feet. Deane finished second with John Curtis Jr. of Hermon right behind, finishing third. Fourth went to pole-sitter Wayne Parritt Jr. of Steuben with Dana Wilbur of Frankfort finishing a strong fifth. These results are currently unofficial, as the shock absorbers on Ryan Deane’s car were removed during post-race tech inspection and will be sent out for testing to ensure their eligibility for competition in the division.
In the Darling’s Ford Sportsman, Trey Brown of Winterport outraced Steve Kimball of Holden in a three lap dash to the finish in the 25 lap feature. Kimball had led from the drop of the green, with Brown running second with Shane Tatro of Levant on his bumper in third. When the green flew to restart the race, Brown was ready and grabbed the lead from Kimball, who had chosen the inside for the restart. Brown held off Kimball’s efforts to regain the lead and took the win. Kimball finished second with Tatro right beside, taking third. Fourth went to Ralph Melanson of Corinth with Mike Overlock of Franklin finishing fifth. (more…)
Two new faces appeared in victory lane Wednesday night at Speedway 95 and two other drivers ended long winless streaks as the 2015 Varney Buick-GMC-Mazda Wacky Wednesday season came to a close.
In the Road Runners, Keith Drost of Stetson took the lead from Bradley’s Sam Betts on lap 17 of the 20 lap feature and won his first race of the season, besting a field of 37 cars that was reduced to less than 20 at the finish. The red flag flew three times during the race, the last time on lap 12 in an incident that sent three drivers to the hospital for observation. Steve Kimball of Holden also got by Betts in the closing laps to finish second with Betts finishing third. Fourth went to Abel Leamur of Winterport with Michael Palmer of Winterport finishing fifth. Betts won the 2015 points championship in the division. (more…)
Tradition, New Faces, And Huge Field Highlight 42nd Annual Oxford 250
– Entry List Up To 70 As Race Approaches
NAPLES, ME (August 26) – With the 42nd Annual AIM Recycling Oxford 250 Presented By Kenny U-Pull only days away, race teams and fans from across North America are making their way towards the historic Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine. Over 70 of the very best Super Late Models from all over the continent are expected to try and qualify for the richest single day motorsports event in the world. Despite practices on Friday and Saturday for the prestigious event, the field will be determined by a series of heat races and consolation races that will provide plenty of drama as drivers attempt to make the cut for the $25,000-plus to win top prize.
Since 1974 when Joey Kourafas bested nearly 100 other drivers to win the inaugural AIM Recycling Oxford 250 Presented By Kenny U-Pull, the heat races and the difficulty to qualify are part of what has made this race legendary. Whether a champion or a rookie, much of what can make or break your weekend depends on the draw to determine starting positions for the heat races. But a bad draw does not necessarily spell imminent doom. 3-time AIM Recycling Oxford 250 winner has never started better than 10th on the way to any of his victories. (Oxford, ME) – It takes weeks and sometimes months to prepare for the biggest race in your young career; the 42nd running of the Oxford 250 is that race for Derek Griffith.
Griffith, the four-time winner and current point’s leader on the Granite State Pro Stock Series sees this opportunity as a coming out of sorts. “We’ve been prepping our Pro All Stars Series (PASS) car for quite a while now. We weren’t sure we were even going to be able to compete and try to qualify for the 250 but things came together and I know we are all excited about this opportunity.”, said Griffith. (more…)
(Hermon, Me) The rain in the forecast held off for another evening of racing at Speedway 95 in Hermon Saturday Night August 22nd.
After a runner-up finish in the qualifier, Bobby Seger, Jr. of Winterport found the right set-up for the feature, driving what he called in victory lane, the fastest car he has ever driven. Despite a back and forth side-by-side race with Jordan Pearson of Hermon for the first few laps of the series race in the third and final Cassella Waste Street division Pine Tree Waste series race, Seger used lapped traffic to grab the top spot and bury the field to the checkered flag. The commanding win for Seger secured for him the series championship. Pearson finished second with Asa Jones of Sullivan finishing third.
The Darlings Ford Sportsmen series went caution free for both the heat and the feature with Holden’s Steve Kimball taking the top spot. Shane Tatro of Levant finished in the second position with rookie Trey Brown of Winteport crossing the line for third. Both the heat and the feature went caution free. (more…)
