(Oxford, ME) – Sometimes in a racers career, satisfaction comes with just being able to get into a race such as the prestigious HP Hood Oxford 250, for a racer such as Derek Griffith; qualifying for his first Oxford 250 was bittersweet.

Griffith, the 19-year-old Hudson, NH native was able to qualify for the main event through a Consolation race win. Griffith would roll-off in the 25th starting position. A lap-7 incident directly ahead of Griffith in turn three and four caused the driver of the No. 12 Hitman Industires/Provencher Insurance Toyota Camry to have to veer off of turn four; making contact with the front stretch wall.

“The lap 7 incident was caused by impatient people, it’s a shame. We had a very fast car all weekend long. The crew busted their tails and our expectations were being able to compete for a podium finish, I mean we know it was our first [Oxford] 250 but we can drive with these guys.” Says Griffith. Lee, NH – Rookie Lee USA Speedway racer Kris Miller of Bedford picked up the biggest victory of his young career on Friday night at “New Hampshire’s Center of Speed”, taking down the win in the prestigious Lance Davis Memorial 50-lapper, traditionally the biggest race of the season for the R & R “The Tool Store and More” Late Model Sportsmen.

Waterboro, ME’s Ray Dinsmore was first out to set the pace when the race went green, leading the way for the first 10 laps with second-generation drivers George Helliwell and Miller hot on his heels. Miller made his way past Helliwell on lap 12, and the next time around, he ducked to the low side of Dinsmore and took over the point.

Dinsmore held on to second until lap 18, when Jimmy Ryder of Hampstead moved past and set his sights leader Miller. Ryder put in a strong run and gave chase until lap 39, when Frankie Eldredge of Stratham flexed his muscles and motored past Ryder, taking his turn in the runner-up slot as the field raced under the ten to go sign.

WISCASSET – Wiscasset Speedway features the fastest cars in Maine. Sure, they have a popular Kids Club, keeping even the youngest members of a family entertained on race day. And of course, track owners, Richard and Vanessa Jordan, schedule countless celebrations throughout the season. But leaving all of that aside, the track has a reputation for sponsoring events that keep motorheads coming back year after year to the state’s fastest track. Formidable competitors known throughout New England battle for the track championships. With that said, last Saturday night’s regular division races were delayed briefly for a lively, albeit competitive 20-lap Go-Kart race. Think it was simply a feel-good, fluff piece to keep crowds entertained? Think again! At Wiscasset Speedway, even a Go-Kart race becomes Daytona 500, with fans not only filling the grandstands but crews surfacing from prepping cars in the pits to watch these mini speed demons. Winning first was Spencer Wenners in the #53x, with Wyatt Oakes of the #11 in second and Deliah Lamarre of the #13 in third.
