Center Conway, NH – DJ Shaw and the #60 Precision JLM team will be racing in the Sunshine State of Florida this weekend in one of the biggest Super Late Model races in the country, the Snowball Derby. The Snowball Derby is a 300-lap race held annually at the half-mile Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. The race has been contested every year since 1968 and is always run on the first weekend in December. Some of the best short track drivers travel to this event each year, with 65 entries filed for this year’s event. Past winners include Darrell Waltrip, Kyle Busch and last year’s winner Erik Jones. Shaw will be running in both the Snowball Derby on Sunday and the Pro Late Model Snowflake 100 lap event on Saturday night.
“It’s huge for us, it’s possibly a one-time thing and we want to make sure we are prepared the best we know and hope for the best,” Shaw said earlier this week in an interview on Mainely Motorsports, “We’ve talked to a few guys from up here like Johnny Clark so we kind of know what to expect with tech inspection and the race.”

Kenley, NC – In one of the most anticipated short track races of the year, Joey Doiron and the 73 Wild Willy’s Burgers/JBJ Machine team made the trip south to Kenley, North Carolina for the 8th annual Mason Dixon Meltdown at Southern National Motorsports Park. It was the final event in the Pro All Stars Series National, which Doiron went into the event trailing Jay Fogelman by 40 points in third place. In their first trip to the high banked 4/10th mile racetrack, they struggled in qualifying but came away with a top five finish after being forced to fight hard throughout the entire 200 lap feature.
The lineup was set by time trials, which differs from the heat races that the PASS North Series uses to set their lineups. Fighting a tight car, Doiron was only able to set the 22nd fastest lap of the 28 cars. (more…)

BKR Driver Learned From 2012 Rookie Effort In Snowball Derby
MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Austin Theriault was thrilled just to have qualified for the race a year ago, but this weekend the Brad Keselowski Racing development driver has much higher expectations for the running of the 46th annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Fla., on Sunday, December 8.
Theriault believes that the BKR No. 29 Checkered Flag Foundation Ford Fusion team has a much better plan in place than it did a year ago. Qualifying begins at 5:15 p.m. local time on Friday night, with the Snowball Derby going green at 2 p.m. Sunday.
“This is the biggest short track race that everybody comes to,” said Theriault, who finished 20th in last year’s Snowball Derby – his first appearance in the annual 300-lap Super Late Model race featuring NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers, touring series champions and some of the best short track racers in the United States. “It’s one of the marks on the calendar that you keep in the back of your mind 365 days of the year. Last year, we left here disappointed, but that night we had already refocused on coming back this year.
