The 51st Annual People’s United Bank Milk Bowl will return to its historic three (3) 50-lap segment format on Sunday, October 6 at Barre’s Thunder Road. In recent years, the final two segments had been run with extended 75-laps. After listening to the fans, it has been decided that the shortened 50-lap segments will create more “edge of your seat” action.

“The 50-lap segments were always more volatile,” said Thunder Road Promoter Tom Curley. “The third and final segment was the highlight of the Milk Bowl, as drivers had to go flat out every lap. The 75-lap segments allowed drivers to relax and gave them too much time to work their way through traffic. That isn’t what the Milk Bowl is about. It’s about white-knuckled, up-on-the-wheel, three-wide for the win action. It’s what makes the Milk Bowl the ‘Toughest Short Track Event in North America’.”

While the shortened segments will bring the overall scores up, it should also put more drivers in a spot to win the overall, as they head into the third and final segment. The Milk Bowl uses a combined scoring system, with the winner of each segment receiving one (1) point, second two (2), etc. with the lowest combined score winning the Milk Bowl. The finishing order from each segment is partially inverted to line up the next segment.

Adam Norton, Eddie Brehio III, Mike Stebbins, Joe Ethier, and Kyle Boniface won the battles Saturday, Sept. 14, at Monadnock Speedway. But of the quintet of feature winner, only Brehio achieved the ultimate conquest of winning his division’s season championship.

While Norton earned his fifth victory of the summer in the blockbuster Sportsman Modified division, Bill Kimball was content to hold his position further back and lock up his third speedway championship. Likewise in the Mini Stock main event, where Mike Stebbins rocketed to his fourth win of the season, with Beth Adams following him under the checkers to earn her first track title.

Ed Lofland copped the 2013 Thunder Stock championship with a risky strategy, but one that paid off. While Joe Ethier earned his first victory of the season, Lofland was content to ride in third, tying Ethier in points, but grabbing the title on a tiebreaker, outnumbering the night’s winner in feature victories by a five-to-one margin.

This Saturday, September 14th, marks the end of the regular season for all divisions at Riverside Speedway on Roger’s Campground Championship Night. The battle most fans are keeping an eye on, the Sign Depot Limited Late Model top two drivers are separated by a mere 1 point. “Hollywood” Chandler Davis has been trailing most of the year, but gained just enough points to give him the advantage over Doug Laleme entering Championship Night. Sitting third, still mathematically in the hunt, Jourdan Davis is just 25 points from the lead. The Sign Depot Limited Late Models have put on a heck of a show all year long, and look to continue that trend this Saturday.

The Angels division has a great finish waiting in the wings. Vanessa Brown leads the way with 567 points, but is flanked by Jenna Randall with 562 points, and Tina Leveille with 561. Brown and Randall have racked up the wins this year, but Leveille’s consistency has kept her right in the hunt. Keep an eye on these ladies as they engage in battle on Roger’s Campground Championship Night.

On Saturday night September 7th, the Granite State Pro Stock Series will invade the high banked ¼ mile of the Riverside Speedway in Groveton NH. This will mark the first visit to Riverside for the GSPSS. “We are looking forward to bringing Pro Stock/Super Late Model racing back to Riverside”, stated series president Mike Parks A limited number of teams have turned laps on the ¼ mile but all and all it will be a first for 90% of the teams.

Current point leader Jeremy Davis hopes to turn his recent string of bad luck around, Davis holds a slim 7 point lead over defending Thompson Speedway champion Mike O’Sullivan. As with Davis, O’Sullivan has struggled over the last couple of events. Third place point man Matt Frahm has been on a roll over the last few events and has turned the most laps on the ¼ mile oval, Frahm is one of the favorites for the event. Rounding out the top 5 in the point standings is former Oxford 250 champion Larry Gelinas and longtime Pro Stock competitor Mike Parks.
