Lee USA Speedway Opens 28th ACT Season

leeWaterbury, VT – As the American Canadian Tour’s 28th season shifts into full gear, teams prepare for the opening race on April 13/14 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH. After one of the closest point battles in ACT history in 2012, eventual Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. edged out 8-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar with a victory in the season finale, and will look to continue his momentum at the Lee opener in 2013.

Helliwell will be challenged by ACT star Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., who got his start in full-bodied stock cars at Lee USA Speedway. While Helliwell has amassed 8 track championships at Lee USA, he remains in search of his first ACT victory at his home track. Polewarczyk won the opener at Lee in 2008.

Dave Farrington has spent the racing off season studying, “I am in my final semester of college at the University of Maine in Orono, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. On the weekends, it’s straight home to work on the race cars.”

The 2013 race season is about to get underway as the race teams get ready for the first green flag of the season. “As of right now, we know we will be going to Lee for the ACT event and then going to Oxford for the PASS event. Depending on the results from those two races may set the rest of schedule for 2013. We have plenty of options with two different cars now to run some weekly events at tracks like Oxford, BRMS, Wiscasset, and maybe a few events at Thompson.”

Eddie MacDonald Races at Bristol for MS Awareness

DSC_8478When the green flags waves to open the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 16, Eddie MacDonald and the entire Grimm Racing team will have added meaning for the event. The #71 will proudly display the National Multiple Sclerosis Society logo on the rear quarter panels in support of MS Awareness Week running March 11-17 during the Bristol 125 on “The World’s Fastest Half Mile.” This disease recently hit close to home in the Grimm Racing family when Megan Spaulding, the daughter of team owners Karla and Rob Grimm, was diagnosed with MS.

“Rob and Karla have been so supportive of our racing efforts, it’s time for our entire race team and fans to support them and Megan at this time,” said the veteran driver. “We have been working very hard to prepare our new car for Bristol to run well and set the tone for the season. Now we are more determined to have a great finish for Megan and raise awareness for MS. Like many people, we knew of the disease but knew little about it. Now that it has affected a member of our family, we will do whatever we can to help.”

Two- time Small Block Supermodified champ Eddie Witkum Jr. will be back in the family owned #21 after spending the past season at the wheel of Howie Lane’s ISMA super. And what a season it has been. Despite 3 DNF’s Witkum is still listed in fifth in the point standing ahead of a host of ISMA veterans. “We’re the most consistent team not to win yet,” says Ed.

After finishing a solid third at Lee USA in the Ollie Silva Memorial Summer Classic, Witkum was the star of the show in the Star Speedway Classic, finishing second to seven-time winner Russ Wood.“ I spun and came from the back three times,” says Eddie. And he came as close as he ever has to winning his first ISMA event.
