After an early-evening rain delay and late night of racing forced postponement of a pair of feature events the week before, Lee USA Speedway racers were once again facing a more than full night of racing on Friday, with both the Rodfather Supermodifieds and the R & R “The Tool Store and More“ Late Model Sportsmen running double features.

In addition, the annual El Camino Night saw a strong contingent of all vintages and colors of beautiful street machinery tour the Lee oval, followed by the annual Autograph Night, where hundreds of fans flooded the speedway to visit their favorite drivers for an up close look at the men, women, and racecars that put on the weekly show for them.

Lee USA Speedway 7/7/17 Race Report

After running the table in 2016, with no rainouts slowing the championship chases in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions, three straight rainouts early in the 2017 campaign had drivers chomping at the bit to get back in action at Lee USA Speedway on Fridaynight.

In addition to the weekly divisions, the Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS) and Northeast Classic Lites were on the schedule, and it was a longtime Lee regular who made the headlines in the 100-lap GSPSS feature event.

Joe Squeglia of Derry, who started his racing career some 25 years ago in the Hobby Stocks at Lee USA, took advantage of a late-race incident to collect yet another Lee USA checkered flag in the P & H Electric, Automart-sponsored machine.

Squeglia Wins at Lee!

Photos by Troy Bregy (Seacoast 100)

Lee, NH – Local racer Joe Squeglia of Derry, NH won the Seacoast 100 Granite State Pro Stock Series on Friday, following the fireworks at Lee.  Squeglia was fast all day, posting the second fastest lap in practice, behind Jeremy Harclerode of Newmarket, NH. New dad, Jeremy Davis of Tamworth, NH also looked to be a contender as the previous winner at Lee and another that posted fast times in practice.

Squeglia, and Harclerode both won their heats. Davis finished second in his heat, and after the redraw they started heads up in the feature.  Early in the race Squeglia kept the lead until lap 37 when Harclerode passed him. Derek Griffith of Hudson, NH started 12th and was quietly moving up in the pack and by the half way mark had taken 4th place. Luke Hinkley of Claremont, NH was 7th on the starting grid, but had to start at the tail of the field because a quick trip to the pits on the pace laps, also moved up the field quickly.
