NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Postponed to July 18 at White Mountain

Due to an uncertain forecast including multiple rain cells throughout the day Saturday, and a lack of availability for a rain-date on Sunday, White Mountain Motorsports Park Officials have postponed the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event originally scheduled for June 20 to Saturday, July 18.

While the planned events for the four track championship divisions are still a go for this Saturday, the unpredictable weather coupled with multiple NASCAR teams and officials planning the trek from Florida and the Carolinas pushed Officials to wait for friendlier skies above.

“This isn’t a decision either ourselves as the track or NASCAR took lightly but one we both feel is best for everyone involved,” said WMMP managing partner Cris Michaud. “We’ve already lost one Saturday and we’re pushing to try and make sure our weekly teams don’t lose another.”

Without any improvement in Saturday’s forecast, White Mountain Motorsports Park Officials have made the decision to cancel the weekly racing events originally scheduled for Saturday, June 20.

Officials waited until Saturday morning to make a decision, hoping the forecast would improve but current forecasts call for rain throughout the afternoon and evening, leaving no choice.

“We were hopeful to at least get our track championship divisions in today, but the forecast says otherwise,” said WMMP managing partner Cris Michaud. “We’ll regroup for Kid’s Night next Saturday and look forward to seeing everyone for fireworks to kick-off Independence Day week.”

Both new and returning winners made it to Saturday night magic at White Mountain Motorsports Park.

Quinny Welch won the 1764 Sports Bar & Grill Late Model victory lane podium, while Sidney and Sicard took the win.

The New England Auto Racers (NEAR) brought their tough old racers over the Kancamagus and up Interstate 93 to take on the White Mountain highbanks as part of their yearly doubleheader with Thunder Road on Thursday. The condensed fifteen lap feature saw Dave Blanchard in his 1979 Chevy Malibu take the checkers for the Sportsman while Mike Kugler took home the top Modified honors.

Makenzi Sicard and Kiptyn Aldrich kicked off feature racing for the Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division before Sicard and Cameron Beattie made contact on lap one to call the early caution. Back under green, Clayton Houghton took command of the field while Madison Potter and Gracen Gorham duked it out for second behind him. Potter and Gorham made contact coming off turn four in the final lap, leaving Clayton Houghton to take down his first Kids Division win over Evan Folsom and Chloe Doyle at the line.

Strictly Minis Take Center Stage at White Mountain Motorsports Park

After The Farmyard Store Flying Tigers and 1764 Sports Bar & Grill Late Models have both had their time at the top of the heap, the Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Strictly Minis take center stage this Saturday at White Mountain Motorsports Park. The popular four-cylinder class is ready to take down 50 laps on the highbanks in the longest distance of the season!

Jacob Roy holds a slim margin over Thunder Road invader Nate ‘Tater’ Brien after the Williamstown, Vermonter took down his first win of the season last Saturday. What started off as a just-for-fun pair of outings may turn into a championship run for Tater this week while rumor has it he won’t be the only one. Fellow Williamstown driver Kyle MacAskill has set a goal of thirty-races between Thunder Road and White Mountain this summer while the ACT Office has heard about several Thunder Road masters looking to make the trip over the Kancamagus Highway this Saturday for some extra-distance action.

N. Woodstock, NH — East Thetford, VT’s Matt Sonnhalter stood firm through everything the North East Mini Stock Tour (NEMST) field could hurl at him on his way to victory at North Woodstock, NH’s White Mountain Motorsports Park on Saturday, June 9. Sonnhalter took the lead on lap 8 of the 50-lap feature and held off a huge pack in the final dash for the win.

The NEMST veteran started seventh in his familiar #33VT truck and did not need long to get the lead. Passing nearly a car a lap, Sonnhalter flew past Seekonk, MA’s Mike Viens to grab the top spot with just eight laps complete.

However, that was just the beginning of Sonnhalter’s battle. After a caution on lap 12 for a tangle involving Emerson Cayer and Cody LeBlanc, things got serious for the crown. As Sonhalter fended off Robert Anderson, Viens, reigning NEMST champion Desmond Skillings, and others at the front, LeBlanc and Cayer were flying out of the back.
