WALPOLE, N.H. – After an enduring season of racing across the New England region, the Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS) is set to crown the 2016 champion this Saturday, Oct. 22., at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.
The 3/8 mile Shoreline oval will play host to the Super Late Model Series in a 75 lap main event that will decide a championship battle that currently has two veterans at the top.
Belchertown, Mass. driver Barry Gray holds a 26 point advantage over Conway, N.H. native D.J. Shaw, who was also recently crowned the PASS champion for 2016. Gray has little experience at the Speedbowl, but is hoping to seal the deal in his No. 29. Though he is not a GSPSS champion, Gray has won championships in racing before.

The American Canadian Tour completed its season with the World Series 75 as part of the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Saturday, October 15. Eddie Mac finished third in the championship points battle in the team’s first full season on the tour. The “Outlaw” needed a perfect day to catch eventual champion Nick Sweet for the title but that day did not materialize.
“We needed to win our heat, win the race, lead the most laps, and have Nick finish no better than sixth but we didn’t come close,” said Eddie Mac. “We struggled with the car right from the first practice and tried a number of adjustments but nothing worked. The car was loose in and off the corners so I couldn’t get any speed down the long straights here. Rollie and the crew worked hard all day but it just was not our day.”
The EXIT Realty/Hancock Electric Chevy started fifth in the third heat after struggling to find speed and handling in the only afternoon practice. Eddie Mac could only finish fifth in the heat and with the even rating started 14th on the grid for the 75 lap feature on the fast, high-banked, 5/8ths of a mile oval. When the green flag waved, Eddie Mac powered into the tenth position after only five laps and into seventh place by the second caution flag on lap 23, then reported to crew chief Rollie LaChance saying, “It is really tough to pass and the car does not have a lot of forward drive.”

Glen Luce wins PASS Super Late Model finale, DJ Shaw wraps up series Championship
Ryan Robbins wins PASS Modified race and title, Street Stock Open win for Calvin Rose, Jr.
Oxford, Maine – Glen Luce of Turner earned a trip to victory lane the hard way, driving from 29th starting position to victory lane Saturday on Pro All Stars Series North Super Late Model Championship Day at Oxford Plains Speedway.
Luce ran afoul of tech inspectors after a heat race and was forced to the consolation rounds, where he charged from the back of the field to finish fifth. He made most of his progress during a 100-plus lap green flag stretch in the remarkably-competitive race.

Thompson, CT – Hinesburg, VT’s Bobby Therrien used a last-lap pass of Dillon Moltz to score his second with of the season at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park’s Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing presented by Xtra Mart on Saturday, October 15, while Nick Sweet captured his first American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Championship with a fifth-place finish in the season finale.
Moltz and Therrien had both gotten around long-time leader Scott Payea with less than 10 laps remaining in the 75-lap event following a lengthy battle. Therrien first poked his nose underneath Moltz with just two laps to go, but the Waterford, CT driver was able to fend off the initial challenge.
As the two exited turn two for the final time, Therrien again looked underneath Moltz. The two then made slight contact as they entered turn three, and Moltz slid up the track just enough for Therrien to scoot by for the win, giving him a bookend on the year after previously triumphing in the season-opener at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Heading into the final Granite State Pro Stock Series race of the 2016 season at New London-Waterford Speedbowl on Oct. 22, the championship fight has come down to two drivers.
Belchertown, Massachusetts native Barry Gray currently holds a 26 point advantage over Conway, New Hampshire driver D.J. Shaw. Both are veterans of Super Late Model racing in New England and both have won championships before.
Gray, who knows all he will need to do is have a solid finish at the Speedbowl next weekend to clinch the crown, still isn’t extremely happy with the way his season has gone.

NAPLES, ME (October 12) – After the grind of another long season, the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Super Late Models and Modifieds will close out 2016 this Saturday afternoon at Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway. The PASS Modifieds have an outstanding points battle heading to Oxford Plains with Andy Shaw leading by a slight four points over Ryan Robbins and third place points man Ben Tinker just 19 points behind Shaw.
The battle for the PASS North Super Late Model crown comes down to two former champions, DJ Shaw and Johnny Clark. Shaw leads Clark by 69 points as they come to Oxford Plains for Saturday afternoon’s 150-lap event. Clark, the former six-time series champion, recently captured his first win of the season at White Mountain Motorsports Park. While Shaw has not won since Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in April, his consistency has him on the threshold of a second PASS North title.
“As far as the season goes, I would consider the season successful, but we really wanted more wins,” says Shaw, driver of the Precision JLM/Mulkern Excavating #60. “We race for wins and they just didn’t come this year. We still have a shot at winning our second race this weekend, but you always want more.”
