Governor’s Cup Date Changed to Thursday, July 10

Barre, VT – Thunder Road International Speedbowl announced today that NASCAR Sprint Cup star Clint Bowyer from Emporia, Kansas has asked to return for another shot at the famous high banks of Thunder Road. Bowyer raced in the 2013 Vermont Governor’s Cup 150 for the first time. His goal was to have better results than the previous “Cup” visitor, Tony Stewart, who finished 16th. “I want to tackle that ¼ mile again. I didn’t have enough time to figure out the fourth turn, but I learned a lot last year about it, and I really want to get back there–the teams and fans were fun to be around,” said Bowyer.

The original date for the VT Governor’s Cup of Thursday, June 26 has been switched to Thursday, July 10th to coincide with the NASCAR Sprint Cup event being held that weekend at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon.  Thursday, June 26 will now be a regular Thursday night race program.

Practice problems plagued teams including Cris King and Jake Rheaume that had engine problems.
Eighteen cars were entered for the heat race qualifying. Justin Larsen and Toby Wells took home the heat race wins. Both heats went green to checker with no issues, Larsen drew an invert of 5 rows. The final lineup was set with NEMST veteran Nic Skillings, driving his brothers back-up car after a hard consolation race wreck at Waterford two weeks prior, and hometown favorite Aaron Poulin. Hudson, NH-      Patience was a virtue as Larry Gelinas bounced back from an early spin to claim the spoils at the Gate City Classic at Hudson International Speedway.

Bobby Cabral looked to be the car to beat at the beginning of the day, as the 2012 champion in the Granite State Pro Stock Series was strong in his heat, picking up the checkered and setting himself up nicely for the feature.  Walpole, NH native Mike Parks would join Cabral on the front row of the feature, by virtue of Parks winning the second heat, and Cabral drawing the #1 pill, resulting in no inversion of qualified cars.  Cabral would lead early, but would be involved in an incident on lap 25, putting a damper on becoming a two-time winner with the series at Hudson.  Mike Parks would inherit the lead, fighting off multiple threats from Dillon Moltz.  Moltz would get the better of Parks eventually, and log some laps at the point of the field.

The 2014 edition of the Oxford 250 just received the entry blank from the legendary Steve Park who will be bringing his G Body Parts, Sunoco, Super Late Model to compete in this year’s mega event at Oxford Plains Speedway. Park, a two time Sprint Cup Series winner became the 45th entrant for the race scheduled for Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 2pm.

“I have always wanted to compete in the Oxford 250, stated Park. This is one of the most prestigious racing events in the Northeast, and to be a part of it in 2014 really excites me. I used to attend this race with my dad when I was younger, and I always hoped to drive in this event some time during my life, and now thanks to G Body Parts, Sunoco, New England Racing Fuel and car owner Dickie Woodman, we will be there attempting to add an Oxford 250 win to my resume. I am looking forward to coming up to the State of Maine a little bit early to enjoy what the Oxford area has to offer. Some of my great friends and supporters from Key Parts have also purchased a suite for the Oxford 250 weekend, and I plan on spending a lot of time meeting and greeting their Key Parts family. I haven’t felt this excited in a long time, it’s going to be a great experience.”

Waterbury, VT – Defending ACT International winner Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. of Hudson, NH has filed the first entry for the 2014 edition of the event to be held at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY on Sunday, July 20. Polewarczyk’s historic win in the inaugural event in 2013 earned him $25,000.

Last year Polewarczyk bested Brian Hoar by just one point by winning the first two segments and taking second in the third segment to pocket the big paycheck. This season Polewarczyk sits atop the ACT standings with four events completed to date. He has to be one of the early favorites for the second running of the ACT International event.

“Last year’s win ranks right up there with the Milk Bowl, and the Invitational (at NHMS). It’s a huge race and last year being the inaugural made it even bigger,” said Polewarczyk. When asked about his confidence heading into the event Polewarczyk commented, “We’re pretty confident. We had a good car at the 100-lapper at Airborne and I like the style of the segments with the inversions. We’ve had a lot of practice working through traffic and coming through the field so far this season.” In the first four events this season, Polewarczyk’s average starting position is 14 with his average finish position at 2.75.
