Oh Yeah! Better Get Macko 99

DSC_3293One of this season rising stars in the Giffords Ice Cream Bandolero Series is 8 year old Charles Macko, from Chester, Vermont.

Charlie first felt the need for speed when on vacation with his family, “I went to Phoenix Arizona with my family on vacation. While we were there, we went to an amusement park. They had a kart track there. I was really small (3 years old), but there was nobody there, and the guy let me into the kart. I have loved driving and going fast ever since.”

This season Charlie is racing the number 99 The Killarney Pub bandolero at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. There is quite difference from the quarter midgets that Charlie raced in the past compared to the bandoleros cars now. “The bandolero car is very different from the form of karts I was in before. It is enclosed, much faster, and really big. I have to steer it with more force. It is much more work.”

Brooks Clark Cashes in on Times Argus Double Points Night

Brooks Clark carries the checkered flag following his win in the double points Times Argus 75-lap feature. (Credit Alan Ward)Barre, VT – Brooks Clark of Fayston won the Times Argus 75-lap Late Model main event on Mid-Season Championship double-points night at Thunder Road despite losing a half-track lead with eight laps to go because of the race’s lone caution.

Clark took the lead for keeps on lap 33. On the restart, he had 16 year-old Joey Laquerre, who drove a courageous race, on his outside with Brett Gervais and rookie point leader Derrick O’Donnell of North Haverhill, NH in row two, ahead of Kyle Pembroke and Nick Sweet.

Clark got a quick jump on Laquerre and immediately took the A. W. Clark Jr. & Son No. 68 to the rim of the race track. The win was Clark’s second of the season. He thanked his team for rebuilding his car after a hard crash Sunday in the ACT International 500 at Airborne Speedway. “It’s been a long week for my crew,” he said.

O’Donnell overtook Laquerre on the final lap to finish second and maintain his spot atop the Late Model standings. Nick Sweet, who started 19th, finished 4th at Laquerre’s rear spoiler. Kyle Pembroke of Montpelier was 5th.

Joey Doiron Contends For Win, Finishes Second in TD Bank 250

FLP_5457 Oxford, ME – In the first TD Bank 250 to feature the Super Late Models since 2006, Joey Doiron and the 73 Wild Willy’s Burgers/JBJ Machine team had an incredible day, finishing second after leading 26 laps in the biggest short track race in the country. Many of the biggest stars of motorsports have competed in the annual 250 lap event at Oxford Plains Speedway. 66 of the best Super Late Model drivers tried to qualify for the 41 car field that paid $25,000 to win.

Starting the weekend out with practice on both Saturday and Sunday morning, the team felt confident in their chances going into the heat races. It wasn’t going to be easy however, as Doiron drew 10th place in the first heat race. The pre-race draw is one of the most intriguing parts of the day, as only four cars will get in to the race through the heat races, and the rest go to consolation and last chance races. Doiron wasted no time in his heat to find the front however, as he used the outside groove to work his way forward. With ten laps to go in the 25 lap heat, he was in a transfer spot for the 250. He didn’t stop there though, as he drove to a third place finish, giving him a 13th place starting spot for the main event.
