NEW ENGLAND MOTORSPORTS NORTH By Lou Modestino(for 4/30-5/2/10)
Over fifty (50) American Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model teams are expected to battle the high banks of Thunder Road in Barre, VT for thirty (30) qualifying spots in the $25,000 Merchants Bank 150 opening event this Sunday, May 2, 2010 at the “Nation’s Site of Excitement”, Barre, Vermont’s Thunder Road.
Thunder Road presents a unique challenge for teams of the ACT. There are a large number of regular veteran touring teams entered, including, multi-time champions Brian Hoar and Jean Paul Cyr (the defending Thunder Road Champion). Joining them with plenty of experience are Brent Dragon, Scott Payea and Hudson, New Hampshire’s Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. These teams are joined by the Thunder Road regular weekly competitors, including three time champions Cris Michaud and Phil Scott, and former Thunder Road champion David Pembroke. Regulars Nick Sweet, Rich Lowery, Joe Becker, Matt White, Brooks Clark and Trampas Demers only add to the depth that the weekly racers bring to the Merchants Bank 150.

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) announced today that the highly anticipated Ford Blue Oval Challenge winner’s share of the overall point fund has been increased from $3,000 up to $5,000 to win. A lucrative Ford contingency program was announced late last fall for the teams on both the ACT US and Castrol programs. Also, all Ford teams running at approved affiliate ACT tracks will be eligible to receive bonus money in the Blue Oval Challenge Cup portion of the overall program. Mike Delahanty, the Program Manager-Sportsman Circle Track Racing for the Ford Racing Technology Division of Ford Racing, announced last February the program for ACT Ford competitors. It is one of the richest contingency programs in the history of ACT with over $35,000 up for grabs among the region’s Ford crate teams.

Waterbury, VT – There will be a new challenge for the American Canadian Tour (ACT) Thunder Road Late Model teams when they begin pursuit of the 2010 “King of the Road” title in 2010. With the announcement of the Sunday, May 23rd opening event at the newly renovated and paved Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Fair Haven, VT, the ACT Late Models from Thunder Road have been invited to compete at the historic speedway. It will be the first point-counting event of the season for the Thunder Road Late Models.

Naples ME (4/26) PASS North’s tenth anniversary season gets underway on Saturday afternoon May 1st at Scarborough Maine’s Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, and racers and race fans from throughout the region are ready for the long awaited opening day.
There’s a healthy list of pre-entries in the headlining PASS super late model division. Adam Bates, Johnny Clark, Ben Rowe, Kelly Moore and Richie Dearborn all have to be considered threats for the opening day win. Travis Benjamin, Scott Chubbuck, Matt Frahm and Joey Doiron all run strong at the Ridge. Gary Smith, Donnie Whitten, Scott Alexander, Chuck Colby and John Higgins are all pre-entered plus fans can expect to see a number of Beech Ridge Pro Series regulars attempt to steal the touring pros’ thunder.

Peltier paces PASS South at Orange County
Rougemont NC (4/25) Preston Peltier used the bottom groove to work his way past Ryan Moore on lap 112 of the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Orange Blossom Special to claim his second consecutive PASS South super late model win of 2010. It was also Peltiers’ second consecutive PASS Orange Blossom Special victory at the Rougemont North Carolina speed plant.
Daniel Hemric made his PASS debut a successful one with a strong second after a brief stint in the lead, and fast timer Joey Gase raced home third. 2007 PASS South Champion Ryan Lawler was fourth and Andy Loden came home fifth. Moore faded to sixth at the finish followed by Ryan Blaney, Evan Jackson, Tim Nooner and early race leader Devin Jones. Moore led the most laps (24-112) before relinquishing the lead to Peltier.
Peltier is now tied with Corey Williams and Ben Rowe atop the PASS South career win column with five.
