First PASS win for second generation racer – Darveau wires PASS Mod main
Scott Dragon drove by Kelly Moore on lap 113 of Saturday night’s PASS North Southern Maine Motors.com 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and checked out to earn his first career PASS super late model victory. Trevor Sanborn made a successful return to Beech Ridge, finishing second . Kirk Thibeau finished third despite an electrical issue that dropped him back in the field on several occasions. Moore hung on for fourth and Cassius Clark raced home in the fifth position.
It looked like it might be Moore’s night much of the way in a race that was short on cautions and long on great battles throughout the field. Bill Rodgers led the first sixteen laps before Moore took over and the veteran stayed out front for nearly two thirds of the laps. But the torrid pace seemed to take a toll on his ride. DJ Shaw challenged Moore for the first hundred laps until Dragon took up the challenge, making his move on Shaw on a restart. Fifteen laps later the was out front, delivering the first PASS win for the team. (more…)
Fred Ashmore Jr. of Hancock outdueled Hudson’s Donny Silva following a lap 24 restart to take the lead on lap 25 of the 35 lap Coca-Cola of New England Series race for the Sport-Four Division at Speedway 95 Saturday night. Silva had led from the drop of the green and through a lap 5 restart until the yellow flew again on lap 24 for a solo spin by Glenburn’s D.C. Alexander. On the restart, Ashmore hung with Silva and made the pass on the 25th lap that he held until the checkers flew. Silva also fought off a hard challenge from 14 year old Emma Libby of Glenburn as she tried to take the second spot from him over the final five laps. Silva hung on for second with Libby taking third, her first top three finish in her rookie year in the division. Bradley Dolan of Glenburn finished the extended length feature in fourth with Ted Ryder of Carmel coming in fifth. (more…)
Unity, Maine — Dean Fuller of Albion won his second straight Late Model feature race Saturday night at Unity Raceway, in just his second start of the 2012 season.
Fuller, a champion in the old Pro Stock class at Unity a decade ago, roared from the back of the field twice, aided in part by a restart incident that forced race leader (and point leader) Ajay Picard of Palmyra to the pit area.
Fuller roared by Waldoboro’s Will Collins shortly thereafter, then outran Burnham’s Brian Whitney to the checkered flag. Collins held on for a third-place finish. Picard rebounded to claim a fourth-place finish, in front of Chelsea’s Dan Trask. Picard won the heat race. (more…)
Joey Doiron Racing: PASS North Series
Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Race Preview
Joey Doiron of Berwick, Maine, returns to the site of his first career PASS North Series victory for the SouthernMaineMotors.com 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Saturday, July 7. Doiron dominated the season-opening 150-lap event at Beech Ridge back in May, and the driver of the No. 73 JBJ Machine/Scarborough Downs Chevrolet is eager to get back to the .333-mile oval. Doiron is third in the series standings through six races – one of only three drivers to post five Top-10 finishes this season – and would like to contend for the victory Saturday to help close the 34-point gap to the current point leader. On a similarly-sized race track at Canaan Fair Speedway last weekend, Doiron was disappointed to finish 10th and is hoping to rebound from that at Beech Ridge. (more…)
