Coming out of a successful 2016 racing season where he earned “Rookie of the Year” honors at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in the Wildcats division, Zach Nicholson still had many goals in mind as he entered his sophomore season in 2017. Although 2016 was a good year for the young driver, he still wanted more. What was the top goal on his list? A feature victory in 2017. After an entire season full of ups and downs, Zach Nicholson finally captured his first feature victory in an accident-ridden 30-lap feature on Saturday night at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine.
Coming into the night, Zach had clearly made his mark at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, earning himself 9 top-5 finishes in 13 weeks of competition. The orange and blue #21 was a consistent figure at the front of the pack each and every week, fighting for position. Like all drivers do, Zach did have some tough weeks, including being caught up in a frightening wreck in turn 3 on July 22nd, a wreck that led to him being transported to Maine Medical Center with a sprained ankle. No matter what happens to him out on the track, Zach never gives up. After his wreck, he brushed himself off and returned to competition the very next week; only to take home yet another top-5 finish in his division. Due to his many qualifying heat race victories over the course of the season, people started to deem Zach as the “Heat Race Hero”. This motivated him to work harder to finally secure that first career victory he had been longing for for two years.

Wiscasset Speedway was back in action Saturday night. Group 2 took center stage with regular action in all divisions plus the special Dave’s World Dash For Cash for the Late Model Sportsman. battles are coming into shape with just a month left in the 2017 season.
The Kennebec Equipment Rental Outlaw Minis were the spotlight division with a 35 lap feature. Just one caution slowed the action as the top three drivers in the class took control. Point leader #26 Brent Roy picked his way up from his 6th starting spot to claim the lead on lap 15 and drive to his 3rd victory of the season. Division runner-up Jake Hendsbee #27 kept Roy in his site but had to settle for the 2nd place trophy. 4-time champ Rob Greenleaf #2x finished 3rd.

Even though the 2017 season is headed into the homestretch, first-time winners continue to be crowned at Wiscasset Speedway, making it one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory. Saturday night three more drivers picked up their first victory of the season as Group 1 was in the house with action in the ServPro of Biddeford-Saco Prostocks, Super Streets, Thunder 4 Minis, and N.E.4-cylinder Pros. The flex race on the program was a 100 lap enduro.
In the Serv Pro of Biddeford Saco Prostocks, Newcastle’s Charlie Colby grabbed an early lead and never looked back on his way to winning caution free 40 lap feature. Colby came into the weekend as the division point leader but had only managed a season-best 3rd place finish four times. This was the first victory of the season for the 2-time champ. He was joined in victory lane by Thomaston’s Daren Ripley and Richmond’s Nathan Tribbett.

Eddie MacDonald fought his way through a day wrought with obstacles to take fourth place honors in the 44th Annual Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway on Sunday. True success in any endeavor is the ability to face and overcome challenges in pursuit of the desired outcome. Eddie Mac may have fallen short of the desire to win his third Oxford 250 title but his finish is nothing short of spectacular.
With only 13 laps to go, Eddie Mac rode in second place before tires and handling slowed the second place Dave Lemieux owned Chevy for the fourth place run. The roller coaster day began on a high note with Eddie Mac starting second in the second heat then powering to an easy win for a guaranteed outside pole position for the main event. However, the 17Ma entry failed tech negating the win and forced Eddie Mac into the first scheduled consi race. Starting 14th, Eddie Mac ran three wide on the outside hoping to finish in the top two in the 20 lap shootout to gain entry into the feature. Disaster struck again when a flat tire forced him to the pits. Eddie Mac returned but could only muster a sixth place finish.

Oxford, ME — Curtis Gerry of Waterboro dominated when go time came, scoring the biggest racing victory of his career Sunday in the 44th annual Oxford 250 at Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway. With lap leader bonuses included, Gerry’s win should be worth over $35,000.
Gerry, who lined up 21st on the starting grid, needed 123 laps to chase down early race leader Cassius Clark in Rollie MacDonald’s 13. A round of pit stops saw Scott McDaniel earn some lap leader bonus cash for 26 laps before Gerry took command for good with just over 50 laps to go.

Oxford, ME- The first Granite State Pro Stock Series race at Oxford Plains Speedway saw Locals Bobby Timmons of Windham, ME on the pole and Derek Kneeland of Sebago, ME on the outside. At the start of the race Kneeland and Hall were in tight competition for the lead, until the middle of the race when Hall held the lead for much of the remaining laps.
In third place for much of the race and showing the patience of a veteran racer, fourteen-year-old Gabe Brown ran impressive race. Series regular and the current point leader Mike O’Sullivan of Springfield MA, was consistent all night and moved from thirteenth position to tenth by the end of the race. This granted him a provisional position in the Oxford 250 on Sunday. Former series champion Derek Griffith also ran consistently throughout the race starting eleventh and finishing seventh in the race.
