WISCASSET – Across the country, the major discussion on every news station and talk show is the upcoming presidential election. With a little over a month until Americans will head to the polls, the mudslinging and campaigning is in full swing everywhere – everywhere, that is, except Wiscasset Speedway. With several division championships still up for grabs, drivers were as competitive as a presidential race, without all the talking. Sounds like a win-win.
The NAPA Modifieds 30-lap feature began with sparks as Allan Moeller of the #04 and Nick Reno of the #7 were caught up in traffic along the back straightaway. Reno connected with the wall and the track was left under caution one lap in while the track crew removed his car. When the drivers moved finally into lap two, Adam Chadbourne of the #1 had snatched a commanding lead, followed by Moeller and Mark Lucas of the #5. By lap 23, Moeller was close enough to Chadbourne to keep the latter warm with his engine, but the leader continued to use his speed on the straightaway to keep the advantage. Chadbourne achieved his first career win in this division and Moeller took second. By placing third, Lucas claimed his second straight Modifieds Championship.

WISCASSET – Last Saturday’s race was all about suspense and surprises, and not just because the Enduros were in town. First, all four regular division races were won by drivers earning their first win of the season. Second, all four division champions secured their titles with a top three victory lane finish. Even with the 2016 season winding down, it’s not shocking that the grand stands at Wiscasset Speedway remain full week after week: like a box of chocolates, you never know what you might get.
Zac Poland of the #06 wasted no time driving the Super Streets 35-Lap Spotlight Race into high gear, as he took the lead before the first lap was over. Sean Johnson of the #9 moved up to take the lead in lap four, while behind a side-by-side battle waged for the third and sixth positions. Cody Buzzell of the #38 freed himself from the back half of the pack in lap seven, while the current division points leader, Mark Lucas of the #5, moved with signature stealth into fourth. As he lost the green-flag-momentum, Poland fell behind Lucas and was sandwiched momentarily between the two division leaders – Lucas at his front bumper and Josh Bailey of the #2 at his rear bumper. Bailey was focused on Lucas, who stood between him and the division championship, and had acknowledged during practice that Lucas is “a hard man to beat!”

For the fifth time this season, Eddie MacDonald, starting on the pole, finished second in the Fall Foliage 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine on Saturday. The scheduled two day event reduced to one day due to predicted inclement weather on Sunday also reduced the American Canadian Tour’s 200 lap feature to 150 laps.
Eddie Mac won the pole position with a +3 rating after finishing third from his sixth starting position in the first of two heats. The #17 EXIT Realty/Hancock Electric Chevy posted the second fastest time in two of the three fifteen minute practices and a fifth fastest in the other practice.
Usually a second place run, with five for the season along with two wins, would be enough to gain ground in the race for championship points. However, point’s leader Nick Sweet dominated the race after taking the lead from Eddie Mac on lap 63 then lapped the field to the seventh position to increase his point lead over Eddie Mac and second place driver Scott Payea. Sweet now leads the Rowley, Mass. veteran by 26 points and 23 points over Payea with Thompson Motor Sports Park the final point’s race of the ACT season to be run as part of the World Series of Racing. The Bond Invitational event scheduled for this Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, a race Eddie Mac has won four times, is a non-point ACT race.

WISCASSET – August was a busy month at Wiscasset Speedway with packed grand stands, amazing business sponsors and events every weekend! But at the end of the day, it’s all about the drivers and how they perform – both on and off the track. Each month during the season, the track recognizes a competitor who demonstrates quality sportsmanship through actions toward other drivers and fans. Last Saturday night, the Wiscasset Speedway family presented August’s Driver of the Month Award to Dave “Boss Hogg” St. Clair, driver of the #14 Late Model Sportsman, from Liberty. Notable as a long time track competitor and obvious fan favorite, the crowds went wild as the Boss Hogg accepted the award but cheered even louder a moment later – it was time to start the engines and get racing!

Scarborough, Maine — Travis Benjamin was smiling on the podium following his triumph in the Southern Maine Chrysler Dodge Jeep 150 Pro All Stars Series Super Late Model race at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough Saturday.
Benjamin, of Morrill, could not even force a smile the last time he was a top-three finisher driving the Huot’s Restaurant / 99 Restaurants Petit Motorsports 7, after finishing behind Wayne Helliwell after leading the most laps in last month’s HP Hood Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Scarborough, ME – American-Canadian Tour (ACT) point leader Nick Sweet showed he’s still the man to beat in the 2016 championship chase, taking the lead from Eddie MacDonald just before the halfway point and motoring away to a dominating win in the Fall Foliage 150 at Scarborough, ME’s Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 17.
Barre, VT’s Sweet rode in the third position for the first stages of the penultimate event of the year as title challengers MacDonald and Scott Payea battled side-by-side for the top spot. Following the race’s second and final caution for Spencer Morse’s spin on lap 40, Sweet came to life, eventually going around the outside of MacDonald on lap 63 and never looking back. It was Sweet’s third ACT Late Model Tour of the season and second of his career at Beech Ridge.
Rowley, MA’s MacDonald, the number-three point driver entering the day, started on the pole and led the first 18 laps before number-two point driver Payea got to his outside. The two proceed to fight side-by-side for nearly 20 laps, swapping the lead multiple times while at times separated by mere inches at the line.
