Busy Weekend On Tap For Derek Griffith

(Hudson, NH) – Derek Griffith Racing has a very busy weekend ahead, first the 18-year-old driver will try to maintain his slim Granite State Pro Stick Series (GSPSS) point lead as the series visit’s Monadnock Speedway for the first time in 2015.

The turnaround will be quick as the team will also travel to the “Nation’s Site of Excitement”, Barre, Vermont’s Thunder Road Speedbowl for the first-ever 150-lap Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model race.

Griffith currently is on a hot streak and the driver hopes to continue that at Monadnock, he goes on to explain, “We have a win and a second place finish to start the GSPSS season, another podium at Monadnock would be great. I know we’ll have the car to do it. My Crew Chief Louie [Mechalides] always has a great set-up for this bullring.” (more…)

Pit Notes: Full Field in Attendance at Thunder Road Open Practice Session

Barre, VT—Thunder Road held its second open practice session of the 2015 season on Friday. Drivers from all three weekly divisions converged on Barre, VT’s Thunder Road in preparation for the Memorial Day Classic on Sunday, May 24.

 

26 of Thunder Road’s American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Models were on hand. South Burlington, VT’s Trampas Demers, the 2005 Memorial Day Classic Champion, was one of the drivers taking advantage of the chance to earn track time and experiment with setups.

Granite State Pro Stock Series at Monadnock Speedway: A Closer Look at the Numbers

GSPS2Winchester, NH – The Granite State Pro Stock Series will travel to Monadnock Speedway, May 23, for the Memorial Day 100.  The Memorial Day 100 will be the third event of the 12-race season, and will be the seventh time the Granite State Pro Stock Series has visited the facility since 2013, running twice a season each year.  The following is a closer look at the numbers of the Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS), and Monadnock Speedway.

 

MONADNOCK SPEEDWAY NOTES:

-Monadnock Speedway opened on Aug. 13, 1971.

-Nicknamed “Mad Dog”.

-The historic track has seen such drivers as Jimmy Spencer, Beaver Dragon, Ken Bouchard, Mike Stefanik, Reggie Ruggiero, Stub Fadden, Dave Dion, and Robbie Crouch take victories at the Winchester, NH facility.

By Kenny U-Pull would ever race at Vermont’s Thunder Road International Speedbowl. But, what was once a dream for many will become a reality when the stars of PASS hit Thunder Road for the first time ever this Sunday afternoon as part of the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic. The PASS AIM Recycling Super Late Models will compete for 150 green flag laps, along with action for Thunder Road’s ACT Late Models, the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen, and the Allen Lumber Street Stocks.

Veterans Top NEMST at Lee USA

NEMST1On what was the most beautiful day of 2015 so far 23 NEMST minis packed the infield of Lee USA Speedway for the 2nd annual Bull Ring Bash. Practice early in the day revealed that Tim Collins was the fastest car at the speedway for the 3rd event of the NEMST Season. Tim was joined by 2014 champion Toby Wells and Matt Sonnhalter at the top of the leaderboards.

 

Collins started at the rear of the first heat race and had his work cut out for him to earn heat points by finishing in the top 5. Collins thundered through the field diving low, shooting high, and running 3 wide to make his way to the front. On lap 7 he took the lead from Louis Maher and walked to the Environmental Engines victory. Toby Wells ran hard in the 2nd heat starting mid pack and making his way to the front passing 2011 Champion Rob Greenleaf on his way to the Environmental Engines Heat Race win. Collins drew an invert of 1 row for the feature as the lineup was set.

Plattsburgh, NY—Hudson, NH’s Joey Polewarczyk Jr. came out on top of a battle with St-Denis, QC’s Patrick Laperle to win the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Spring Green 115 at Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY on Sunday.

Defending ACT Late Model Tour Champion “Joey Pole” took the lead from Laperle on lap 82 and led the rest of the way in the ACT U.S. and Série ACT combination event. Pole had lost the top spot to Laperle on a lap 44 restart, but stalked him for nearly 40 laps and eventually came away with his second win of the season and second straight ACT victory at Airborne.
