Waterbury, VT – The Merchants Bank 150 at Barre’s Thunder Road cranked up the heat on the American Canadian Tour, shaking up the point standings before a key showdown takes place at the Spring Green 113 this Sunday, May 5 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT.
Sophomore sensation Jimmy Hebert, who started the year off with his first-ever ACT victory in the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup two weeks ago at Lee, backed up his opening day win with a seventh place finish at his home track, Thunder Road. ACT Rookie-of-the-Year contender Bobby Therrien was impressive in just his third ACT start with a fifth-place finish after battling up front all day, pushing forward a youth movement that continues to gain traction on the Tour. With his finish on Sunday he secured a position inside the top ten in overall points, joining young standouts Rowland Robinson, Jr. and Ben Lynch who currently sit seventh and eighth and look to ride their opening momentum into West Haven for the Spring Green 113.

The Lee USA Speedway will kick off its 2013 NASCAR Whelan All-American Series season on May 3. All four of Lee USA Speedway’s weekly divisions will be in action for the first Friday night event of the season; the Benson Lumber & Hardware Small Block Supers, Prime Warehouse & Storage Late Model Sportsman, David’s Race Cars Hobby Stocks, and American Used Auto Parts Ironman divisions.
Defending Small Block Supermodified champ Tommy Tombarello hopes to represent Lee USA for the third time at NASCAR’s Whelan All-American Championship Week in Charlotte, NC at the end of the season. Wayne Helliwell Jr. may have other ideas. He’s won four titles at Lee USA and would like to supplant Tombarrello in Charlotte in November. Peter Stergious, Tony Carroll, and Sparky Magiver are among the many other drivers that will be fighting for the first checkered flag of the 2013 season on Friday night. Fourteen supers were on track for the first test and tune session and another 4 or 5 are on the way making for a stout small block supermodified line up for 2013.

Barre, VT – The sun shone on eight-time American Canadian Tour Champion Brian Hoar, as his trademark patience brought him his second Merchants Bank 150 in as many years on a beautiful afternoon on Sunday, April 28. Middlesex, VT’s Dave Pembroke came home a stout second, and 7-time ACT Champion Jean-Paul Cyr brought home a third place finish.
The race began with pole sitter Jay Laquerre running to a large lead in the early going, but it wasn’t long before Pembroke and Hoar muscled their way to the front in the outside lane, with Pembroke snatching the lead on lap 36. From there Pembroke surged, making short work of lap traffic and building his lead during a long 82-lap green flag run. ACT Rookie of the Year competitor Bobby Therrien impressed early, working his way towards the front of the pack as high as third in his third career ACT event before the caution.

Thirty six NASCAR K&N Pro Series East cars took the green flag in the Blue Ox 100 at Richmond International Raceway on Thursday with Eddie MacDonald in the unenviable 33rd starting position. When the checkered flag waved at the end of the 100 lap (75 miles) race the Grimm Construction Chevy scored an impressive fourth place finish.
“We needed that finish after the last couple of races,” said a very pleased driver. “We had a terrible qualifying attempt. The front of the car was hitting the track and it was smoking quite a bit. We had to start the race that way since the cars are impounded after qualifying.”
