Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. Dominates TD Bank Oxford 250

ACT American Canadian TourACT Veteran Pockets One of the Biggest Checks in 250 History

American Canadian Tour star Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. of Hudson, NH dominated the 39th Annual Oxford 250 at Oxford (ME) Plains Speedway on Sunday, July 22nd. The ACT veteran wheeled his Ford-powered Pole’s Automotive machine to one of the biggest paydays in Oxford 250 history at $45,500, while leading over 200 laps. Polewarczyk maneuvered through heavy lapped traffic throughout the majority of the event and held off a late race charge from Jeff Taylor and fellow ACT competitor Austin Theriault in second and third respectively.

Polewarczyk jumped out to a commanding lead early from the outside pole and lapped nearly half of the 39-car field before the first caution of the event flew on lap 69. With multiple lap cars cushioning his lead over the rest of the lead lap cars, Polewarczyk quickly stretched out his lead again after returning to green and was a half a track ahead when the second caution of the event came out on lap 135.

Oxford Plains Speedway Race Report

Scott Mulkern of Falmouth, Maine, posted a season-high finish of sixth in the PASS North Series Dunkin Donuts 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Saturday, July 21. Mulkern, making only his fourth start in 2012, was part of a two-car effort at Oxford as teammate Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, New Brunswick, finished 16th. Sommerville started sixth in the 31-car field, but he brought out a caution just two laps into the event when a loose part inside of his race car inadvertently shut off the engine. Mulkern started deep on the grid in 20th and had moved into the Top-10 by the halfway mark of the race, but his forward progress stalled out after a long green flag run.

Sweet Defends Points Lead, Shines at Midseason Championships

Barre, VT – Hometown sensation Nick Sweet sent a dagger into his competitor’s championship hopes, claiming the victory and extending his point lead at The Times Argus Midseason Championships on Thursday, July 19. Sweet was followed to the line by Jeffersonville’s Joey Becker and Essex Junction’s Dave Whitcomb. Former K&N Pro Series Champion Jamie Aube took home fourth, and 3-time Thunder Road Champion Phil Scott rounded out the top five.

Becker dominated the early part of the 75 lap event, stretching his lead while top three point drivers David Pembroke and Cody Blake were caught in early trouble. After a lap 23 caution, Whitcomb and Becker broke into a tireless duel side by side for the lead, with point leader Nick Sweet waiting in the whims. When Whitcomb finally inched by Becker using the high lane, Sweet took full advantage soaring to the lead with over 30 laps to go in the event, and never looked back. Mad River Valley’s Brooks Clark brought home sixth place and South Burlington’s Trampas Demers was seventh. Pembroke recovered from early damage to salvage eighth place, and Eric Chase and Scott Payea rounded out the top ten.
