New Faces Fill Top 5 In $1000 To Win Event
The highest winner’s purse of the 2014 season was offered this past weekend at Riverside Speedway in Groveton, NH. $1000 was up for grabs for the car that was leading at the end of the 75 lap event, the most of any race this season. Practice problems plagued teams including Cris King and Jake Rheaume that had engine problems.
Eighteen cars were entered for the heat race qualifying. Justin Larsen and Toby Wells took home the heat race wins. Both heats went green to checker with no issues, Larsen drew an invert of 5 rows. The final lineup was set with NEMST veteran Nic Skillings, driving his brothers back-up car after a hard consolation race wreck at Waterford two weeks prior, and hometown favorite Aaron Poulin. Point leaders Wells and Cayer would start 11th and 12th following NEMST lineup procedure.

This weekend the North East Mini Stock Tour (NEMST), will start the 2014 race season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS). In the off season NEMST founder and promoter Bob Guptill has been working hard getting ready for the upcoming race season, “We have been busy signing on even more new tracks for the 2014 schedule as well as numerous new sponsors big and small for all events.”

 

This will be the 6th year of racing for the NEMST, “The previous 5 seasons have flown by. I can’t wait to kick off 2014, by far our most exciting year yet. Every race this season is a special event either by the facility it is held, the increased purse, or “Triple Crown” involvement. It is for sure going to be an epic year.”

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Weekend For NEMST Teams

texasSaturday the Texas Roadhouse North East Mini Stock Tour made their fourth visit to Waterford Speedbowl for their annual Four Cylinder Fury event. RH2Way, Z-Best Pizza, and Jett Fabrication added in extra bonuses to NEMST and Waterford teams that attempted the 50 lap main event. Heat was the big issue of the day causing cars and tempers to flair with problems throughout the days events.

27 cars registered for Saturday’s portion of the first ever NEMST double-header weekend. Toby Wells, Marc Panaroni, and Glen Thomas all secured heat race wins. 4 rows were inverted by heat winner Toby Wells. The field was lined up with Garret Denton and Sean Caron sitting on the front row. The race got off to a ballistic start with 4 cautions in the first 14 laps due to spins that left cars sitting on the track surface.

WELLS WINS NORTHEAST MINI STOCK TOUR AT WISCASSSET SPEEDWAY

The Northeast Mini Stock Tour made its one and only appearance this year in Maine at the Wiscasset Speedway last Saturday night. Under the bright lights, thirty-one cars raced in an action packed fifty lap feature.

Starting the lineup were heat winners Mike Mason in an Acura Integra No. 51, the No. 33 driven by Matt Sonnhalter, and Shawn Swallow driving the No. 04. In what proved to be a close-quarter race, leader changes at the start were swift. Sonnhalter drifted back in the pack. Car No. 53 driven by Glen Thomas wove through traffic and took second place, George Fortin in his No. 9. advanced from sixth place to third.

Five laps into the race, a caution was thrown when Mason slowed on the front stretch, then went off the track on turn one. Swallow became race leader. Thomas and Fortin were close behind, looking for the lead. This track order did not last long as Thomas was unable to keep up, and Fortin passed him in lap six. No. 88 driven by Emerson Cayer was proving to be a force on the field, and advanced to fifth from his eleventh place start.

Audet Captures 2nd Career NEMST Victory

texasTexas Roadhouse North East Mini Stock Tour competitors braved the cold, the wind, and a muddy pit area to open the 2013 NEMST season at Lee USA Speedway for the famed Governors Cup Weekend. 24 cars entered the race creating 3 heat races and all cars being able to start the feature event. Through Saturday and Sunday practice many cars entered the low 17 second lap range creating the setup for a great race.

Mike Mason laid down the fast time of the weekend by turning a 16.89 on his way to a heat race win. Toby Wells was very close in his 2nd NEMST start by turning a 16.96 with his wild looking Volkswagen. Cris King also won his heat race along with Wells, and Mason. Both cars experienced difficulties in the feature resulting in a DNF, Mason had mechanical issues early in the race and Wells was caught up in a rough turn 3 accident collecting 4 cars on lap 26.
