After a few years of hard work and determination Ms. King is now the 2013 RKS Sportsman Champion, “It’s almost unexplainable! Considering last year I had finished 7th, and now being the champion. I’m glad the work my Dad and I put into the kart during the off season showed this season.”
Though Kayla has taken the checkered flag a number of time this season there is one in particular that means a lot to her, “I would have to say the Mid-summer, Shootout, not only because it was my first win, but the fact that the race was really close and I needed to really think about every move I made, especially the last one giving me the win coming out of turn four on the outside. It was truly something amazing, almost unexplainable! It was not only my first win of the season but my first win at the track, and after that win, many more followed.”

Carter Patterson of Belfast, ME was busy all winter, but is now ready to go racing at Richmond Karting Speedway (RKS). “I went snowmobiling, joined the track team, played intramural football, and worked shoveling snow.”
As a 2012 RKS Champion, Carter knows how to get his kart into Victory Lane. He explains, “The key to racing at RKS is the line you run, a good setup and motor.”
Like most drivers racing at RKS, Carter loves when the sun goes down, the lights come on, and as the green flag gets ready to fly. “I prefer racing under the lights because it seems faster and the track is more fun to drive.”

Curtis Anderson of Richmond ME is racing in the Unrestricted Class this season at Richmond Karting Speedway (RKS).
Curtis had a lot of success at RKS and knows how to get his kart into victory lane. He explains, it’s “being patient, running a good line, having total support from my parents and sponsors.”
Even though there are no night races this season at RKS, the majority of the drivers love racing under the lights. Curtis adds, “I liked the night races better it seems like your kart runs faster and the difference in the track.”
After each practice and heat race, you will see the karts in the pits and the race teams taking off the tires and putting a heat gun and scrapper to them. I asked Curtis what the purpose was behind cleaning the tires. He said, “They stick better to the track.”
