Barre, Vt. – Thunder Road drivers and fans are buzzing in anticipation of the 38th Vermont Governor’s Cup presented by VP Racing Fuels this Thursday, July 13. NASCAR Champion Kyle Busch is gearing up for his first trip to the Barre high banks and will take on the stars of the Thunder Road Late Models for 150 laps of green-flag action.
Las Vegas, Nevada’s Busch has 38 victories in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and was the 2015 series champion. With more than 170 wins in NASCAR’s top three national touring series, he is one of the most accomplished drivers ever to visit the quarter-mile oval and will look for his first victory at the famed speedway.

Barre, Vt. – Thunder Road officials and Burnett Scrap Metals, LLC announced today that they have reached an agreement for the company to become the title sponsor of the Road Warrior division. The Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors will make their season debut on Thursday, July 20 as part of Fairpoint Communications Night.
New team registrations are arriving on a regular basis for the entry-level division, which will be for four-cylinder front wheel drive stock cars. The revived division previously competed at Thunder Road from 2003 to 2011 under the “Junkyard Warriors” name.

Barre, Vt. – Governor Phil Scott became the first sitting governor to triumph in a Vermont stock car race on Thursday, July 6, capturing the Late Model win at Barre’s Thunder Road on Premium Mortgage Night. It was the 30th career win for the Berlin resident and first since being elected governor of the Green Mountain State.
Scott started on the pole of the 50-lap feature after a rough beginning to his season and darted out to the lead during the first half of the event. Barre’s Cody Blake quickly worked his way to second and was beginning to shadow Scott when the race’s first caution came out on lap 28 for an accident involving Wolcott’s Marcel J. Gravel and Milton’s Scott Dragon.

Barre, Vt. – Thunder Road officials have announced that the previously postponed Community College of Vermont Night event has been rescheduled for Friday, September 8 at 7:00pm. The event was originally slated for Thursday, June 29 before being delayed twice due to rain.
As a result of the rescheduling, the event will now be the final point-counting event of the season for each of the track’s weekly divisions. The Thunder Road Late Models, Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, and Allen Lumber Street Stocks will all crown their 2017 champions on CCV Championship Night.

Barre, Vt. – Washington’s Ricky Roberts earned his second career Thunder Road Late Model victory and the Maplewood Triple Crown at the Aubuchon Hardware Holiday Spectacular on Monday, July 3. It was the first Late Model win since 1996 for the veteran driver.
Roberts started on the pole of the 50-lap feature and built a sizeable lead over the pack. However, Northfield’s Matt White smacked the frontstretch wall on lap-39 while running third, marking the first of four late-race cautions. The yellows forced Roberts to first fend off Cody Blake and then Bobby Therrien on critical restarts. Roberts kept them and the rest of the field at bay for the win and the $800 Triple Crown bonus from Maplewood Convenience Stores.
