{"id":1241,"date":"2008-09-14T23:17:27","date_gmt":"2008-09-14T23:17:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/maineracer.com\/wp\/?p=1241"},"modified":"2008-09-14T23:17:27","modified_gmt":"2008-09-14T23:17:27","slug":"laperle-closes-act-title-chase-with-oxford-victory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/2008\/09\/laperle-closes-act-title-chase-with-oxford-victory\/","title":{"rendered":"Laperle Closes ACT Title Chase with Oxford Victory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; OXFORD, ME &ndash; Patrick Laperle of Montr&eacute;al served notice on Saturday evening that he is ready to challenge<br \/> Scott Payea for the 2008 American-Canadian Tour Late Model stock car championship, following a dominant victory in<br \/> the New England Dodge Dealers 150 at Maine&rsquo;s Oxford Plains Speedway.&nbsp; <br \/><!--more--><br \/>Laperle&rsquo;s Syst&egrave;mes Int&eacute;rieurs Descoste #91<br \/>  Chevrolet charged from 16th starting position to take the lead from Turner, ME&rsquo;s Glen Luce on lap 50, then blitzed<br \/>  the 36-car field for his second ACT championship event win of the year.<br \/>   &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&ldquo;That was a lot of fun,&rdquo; said Laperle. &nbsp;&ldquo;We started 16th and took the lead early, the car was awesome. &nbsp;We<br \/>  changed a lot of things just before the race, I knew we had to make the car tighter, and it was the right thing to<br \/>  do. &nbsp;We found something last week (in winning the non-points all-star ACT Showdown at Qu&eacute;bec&rsquo;s Autodrome<br \/>  Chaudi&egrave;re) and it&rsquo;s working.&rdquo;<br \/>   &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Unofficially, Laperle cut his championship deficit to less than half behind leader Payea, of Milton, VT.<br \/>  Payea entered the New England Dodge Dealers 150 with a 42-point edge over Laperle, but now leads by just 19<br \/>  points, 833-814, after finishing sixth. &nbsp;The series&rsquo; finale is in two weeks at the 45th Annual Chittenden Bank<br \/>  Milk Bowl at Thunder Road in Barre, VT. &nbsp;Both drivers are trying for their first-ever ACT Late Model Tour<br \/>  championship.<br \/>   &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Rookie driver Nick Sweet of Barre, VT posted a career-best effort in second place. &nbsp;Sweet drew even with<br \/>  Laperle on the race&rsquo;s third and final restart on lap 144 and nosed ahead on the backstretch following the green<br \/>  flag, but was unable to overtake Laperle. &nbsp;Sweet held off former Oxford Plains Speedway regular-turned-ACT Late<br \/>  Model Tour driver Luce at the finish. &nbsp;Luce earned his best-ever ACT finish in third place after leading 18 laps.<br \/>   &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Nineteen year-old Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. of Hudson, NH finished fourth after a hectic &ndash; but successful &ndash;<br \/>  day. &nbsp;Polewarczyk made his super-speedway debut in the NASCAR Camping World East Series event at New Hampshire<br \/>  Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH earlier in the day, finishing sixth, then drove to Oxford, ME just in time to start<br \/>  the last-chance qualifying race. &nbsp;Polewarczyk started 29th in the New England Dodge Dealers 150 and finished in<br \/>  fourth place. &nbsp;Shawn Martin of Turner, ME finished fifth after an outstanding door-to-door battle with<br \/>  Polewarczyk. &nbsp;Martin led the race for 23 laps.<br \/>   &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Payea finished sixth, unofficially, over Oxford Plains Speedway driver Corey Morgan of Lewiston, ME.<br \/>  Milton, VT&rsquo;s Brent Dragon finished eighth, the final car on the lead lap. &nbsp;Oxford Plains Speedway track champion<br \/>  Travis Adams of Canton, ME lead the first eight laps from the pole position before finishing ninth, one lap down.<br \/>  Rowley, MA driver Eddie MacDonald, who won the Camping World Series event at NHMS earlier in the day, finished<br \/>  tenth. &nbsp;MacDonald also unofficially won the L\/A Harley-Davidson Challenge Series championship, a four-race mini-<br \/>  series that included all three ACT Late Model Tour events and the TD Banknorth 250, after a tie-breaker with<br \/>  Martin.<br \/>   &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Thirty-five of the 36 starters in the New England Dodge Dealers 150 were running at the finish; only Mark<br \/>  Hayward retired from the event after 15 laps with an ill-handling car. &nbsp;The race was completed in one hour and<br \/>  four minutes with just three caution periods. &nbsp;Qualifying heats were won by Ricky Rolfe, Sweet, and John Donahue.<br \/>  Laperle and Scott Luce won the consolation rounds, while Nick Brown won the last-chance &ldquo;B&rdquo; Feature race.<br \/>   &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The ACT Late Model Tour championship season will come to a close on Sat.\/Sun., Sept. 27\/28 at the 45th<br \/>  Annual Chittenden Bank Milk Bowl at Barre, VT&rsquo;s Thunder Road. &nbsp;Booth Bros.\/H.P.
