Corey Morgan of Lewiston, ME. has spent the off season busy getting ready for the 2014 race season. \u00a0<\/span>\u201cSpending time with my kids, building race cars and working. We built a nice Outlaw for Melissa Ferland, got Mitchell a new go kart gave his old one to his sister Grace. I Have also been working to get the new Mustang PRO-Late Model together, and just finished wrapping the Strictly for Wiscasset, also just made a deal to buy back one of the Outlaws I sold so Missy can race the Ladies Division at Oxford on Wednesdays, it\u2019s a nice car that I built for Pat Maloy, and right I have been lettering cars like crazy for the Auburn Mall Show.\u201d<\/p>\n The 2014 race season looks to be a busy with 4 different drivers in the family in 6 different series. \u00a0<\/span>\u201cWin races right! Well Missy will be racing the Ladies Division at Oxford on Wednesdays. Mitchell will try a few races Thursday at Oxford in the kart series. I will be racing Fridays at OPS and Saturdays at Wiscasset, then we take Mitchell and Grace to Richmond to race karts on Sundays.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The winter months have kept Corey busy in the shop working. \u201cI still have a lot of work to do and stuff to buy, this time of year is hard because it\u2019s so busy at the shop, I can\u2019t do much to my stuff but, we will get them ready soon.\u201d<\/p>\n Last season Corey raced for 2 different championships, one at Oxford Plains Speedway and the other at Wiscasset Speedway. Corey was able to come away with his 1st ever Championship at OPS and was upset by Tasha Dyer at Wiscasset Speedway for the Strictly Street Championship.\u00a0 \u201cI won the championship at OPS it\u2019s the first one I have ever won, I’ve been second in late models a couple of times but points have never been great for me. I know it\u2019s just Outlaws and nobody thinks it fair that I ran but I had a blast.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n With all the success in 2013 at Wiscasset and Oxford, so what was the highlight of Corey\u2019s race season? \u201cBoy we made a lot of good memories that would be tough to pick one but, I think it would have to be one of the nights at Oxford I won the Outlaw race then the challenge was to try and win the Strickly race on the same night, I made it to second Bowie was leading, the race was about over, and I shouldn\u2019t have caught him but I remember driving hard than normal because I really wanted it. As soon as I got in his mirror he messed up and I drove right under him to win the race, then I really wanted to win the next day at Wiscasset to sweep the weekend. Tasha will remember\u2026 I got second or third and boy was I grumpy about it\u2026 it just didn\u2019t work out.\u201d<\/p>\n Racing in 2 different series, with 2 different race cars, plus Corey\u2019s wife Missy racing at OPS and his children Mitchell and Grace in racing in karts, where does Corey find the time to work on these race cars. \u201cI don\u2019t know how I fit it all in but, when push comes to shove we make things happen I guess, we have a good crew at work that picks up my slack if needed, and I don\u2019t really do anything but, work and racing.\u201d<\/p>\n Racing is always evolving either in the cars or on the track, to make the races better, safer, and fun to watch. So from a driver\u2019s point of view what would Corey do to improve the racing? \u00a0<\/span>\u201cThat\u2019s tough, I guess that\u2019s someone else\u2019s job, but I think the atmosphere has a lot to do with things from fans, to crews, drivers, etc\u2026 We are all there for one reason to have fun. If we could have more of that and less of having to pay, so many fees from licenses to special services for the cars that we need to compete.
