{"id":13120,"date":"2014-05-20T15:47:54","date_gmt":"2014-05-20T19:47:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.maineracing.com\/wp\/?p=13120"},"modified":"2014-05-20T15:47:54","modified_gmt":"2014-05-20T19:47:54","slug":"around-successful-weekend-packard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/2014\/05\/around-successful-weekend-packard\/","title":{"rendered":"All around Successful Weekend for Packard"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_13121\" style=\"width: 504px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13121\" class=\"wp-image-13121 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.maineracing.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/E1.jpg\" alt=\"E1\" width=\"494\" height=\"283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/E1.jpg 494w, https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/E1-300x171.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 494px) 100vw, 494px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13121\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Emily Packard<\/p><\/div>\n<p>With Mother Nature winning again postponing the Devil\u2019s Bowl race to <span data-term=\"goog_660834004\">Sunday<\/span>, it was off to Airborne Speedway for Emily Packard and her 9X Northstar Fireworks\/Packard Fuels sponsored team for the ACT 100 race.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Spending most of the afternoon practicing and getting the car to run consistent laps, Packard hit the track in the second heat race starting in the 8<sup>th<\/sup> and final starting spot in her heat.\u00a0 With only 10 laps to work her way to the front, Packard found herself crossing the finish line on the last lap in 6<sup>th<\/sup> position, forcing her to have to run the consolation race.\u00a0 \u201cI found myself behind some slower cars, and with only ten laps to move up, I had to work to get around them longer than I wanted,\u201d said Packard.\u00a0 Staring the consolation race in third, Packard maintained the third position throughout the race to finish in third and get her into the race.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Starting 10<sup>th<\/sup> in the feature, Packard knew that she could only wait so long before she had to make her move. \u00a0\u201cWith a 100 lap race it\u2019s not as critical to maintain your tires. You want to conserve a little bit at the beginning, but not as you would in a 150 lap race,\u201d said Packard.\u00a0 After an early caution, the race ran green for more than 80 laps and Packard drove her own race falling back to 11<sup>th<\/sup>, and then driving back up to 10<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With the final caution coming out on lap 94, Packard restarted the race in 9<sup>th<\/sup> position, but things didn\u2019t go as planned on the restart.\u00a0 \u201cTwo cars in front of me started to go sideways and there was nothing that we could have done about it,\u201d Packard said.\u00a0 This jam up allowed for the outside lane to move up, and Packard lost two positions, falling back out of the top ten.\u00a0 She battled with the 58VT for the last 6 laps, trying to get back up into the top ten, but when the checkers fell she was in 11<sup>th<\/sup> position.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI am happy with my finish,\u201d said Packard, \u201cwe always want to make sure that we are towards the front of the field at the end.\u00a0 We are coming home with a decent car and had a really good day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With Airborne in the books, Packard and the team packed up and headed over to Devil\u2019s Bowl Speedway to run the rescheduled race postponed from <span data-term=\"goog_660834005\">Friday<\/span> night.\u00a0 Since she doesn\u2019t often get to run in front of one of her sponsors, Rutland Regional Medical Center, this was a great opportunity to do just that.\u00a0 This was also a chance for the late model teams to support the local tracks, as well as get some valuable information on how the car handles.<\/p>\n<p>Starting in second during her heat, she wasted no time getting out front and checking out.\u00a0 Leading the majority of the laps she was almost a straight away ahead of the second place car at the finish.\u00a0 After the redraw, Packard started 9<sup>th<\/sup> in the feature, and when the green flag fell, she found herself marred behind two cars that held her up.\u00a0 \u201cWe had a really fast car, I caught a few bad breaks and felt that I could have gotten a little more,\u201d said Packard.<\/p>\n<p>Packard made her way around the slower cars, continuing to work her way up to the front, but the cautions seemed to come out just as she was making the pass.\u00a0 On the last lap, Packard went high in turn three, making it three wide coming off turn four heading to the checkered flag, coming across the line in the fourth position, just edging out the other two drivers.\u00a0 \u201cIn the end we made it up to fourth, which we are really happy with,\u201d Packard said, \u201cWe were here to learn more about the car and try to make a little more headway.
