{"id":13226,"date":"2014-06-02T14:40:32","date_gmt":"2014-06-02T18:40:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.maineracing.com\/wp\/?p=13226"},"modified":"2014-06-02T14:40:56","modified_gmt":"2014-06-02T18:40:56","slug":"packard-finishes-third-devils-bowl-vermont-state-late-model-championship-race-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/2014\/06\/packard-finishes-third-devils-bowl-vermont-state-late-model-championship-race-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Packard finishes Third at Devil\u2019s Bowl  Vermont State Late Model Championship Race #2"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_9560\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9560\" class=\"wp-image-9560 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.maineracing.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/emily-mug-260x300.jpg\" alt=\"emily mug\" width=\"260\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/emily-mug-260x300.jpg 260w, https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/emily-mug.jpg 378w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 260px) 100vw, 260px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-9560\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Emily Parkard<\/p><\/div>\n<p>EAST MONTPELIER, Vt \u2013 Determined to put the previous finish from last week in the Vermont State Late Model Championship race at Thunder Road behind her, Emily Packard went out and drove her 9x Northstar Fireworks\/Packard Fuels Ford to a third place finish in the second race of the 4 race championship battle.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a great run and a great race,\u201d Packard said, \u201cThe car was really fast and we were impressed with how well it ran tonight.\u201d\u00a0 The night began with her starting in the back (7<sup>th<\/sup>) in her heat race, Packard found herself held up for a couple laps, but was able to move her way forward.\u00a0 At the end of the 10 lap heat, Packard finished in the 4<sup>th<\/sup> position (with a plus three), which safely got her in the race and a decent starting position for the feature.\u00a0 \u201cWe got held up a little bit in the beginning, but we were able to maneuver past them,\u201d said Packard, \u201cWe caught the third place car right there at the end, and with a few more laps could have had at least one more spot, but I am happy with the starting position it gave us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Starting in the 5<sup>th<\/sup> position for the feature, Packard wasted no time setting her sights on moving to the front.\u00a0 By lap 7 Packard had already moved to 4<sup>th<\/sup> place and within 7 laps later, she was pressuring the 18vt for 3<sup>rd<\/sup> place.\u00a0 \u201cThe team made some changes to the set-up from the last time we were here,\u201d said Packard \u201cwe had a good car all day, and knew that we were going to be fast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Packard stayed in the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> position until lap 42 when she was passed by the 18vt.\u00a0 The two cars battled for position running side by side for a number of laps both wanting that third spot.\u00a0 They traded the position back and forth through lap 96, when the caution came out.\u00a0 Packard found herself in 3<sup>rd<\/sup>, on the restart and battled with the 4ny to try to get up to second.\u00a0 The final caution came out on lap 98, and Packard was third on the final restart.\u00a0 \u201cOn that last restart we had a little more car left, and we were able to get a great run off the corner,\u201d said Packard, \u201cUnfortunately, we weren\u2019t able to get second, but third is still great and I am so happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With a green, white, checker finish, Packard tried to catch the second place car, but was third when she came across the line.\u00a0 \u201cThis is the first time that the Ford has finished a race, and it\u2019s great to finish in third with it,\u201d Packard said \u201cIt gives us a little bit of a confidence boost and we are definitely happy that we made it the full 100 laps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you to my guys for all their hard work.
