EAST MONTPELIER, Vt. \u2013 As Thunder Road is about to kick off its 55th<\/sup> season, Emily Packard and the Packard Motorsports crew are ready for the Thursday<\/span> night weekly challenge.\u00a0 \u201cThis is my home track,\u201d said Packard.\u00a0 \u201cWeekly racing is so different than tour racing; only having 50 laps, there is no tire conservation, you just have to go from the drop of the flag.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This Thursday<\/span> night is the first weekly event of the season, but the second point\u2019s race towards the track championship.\u00a0 Coming off the 18th<\/sup> place finish on Memorial Day weekend, Packard knows that she has some ground to make up, but is confident that she can do just that.\u00a0 \u201cI can\u2019t get discouraged. It\u2019s a tough track with a lot of good competition,\u201d said Packard.\u00a0 \u201cI think it\u2019s going to be a very intense weekly battle among competitors to make races.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year Packard finished 11th<\/sup> in the weekly points championship, but has her sights on bettering that this year.\u00a0 \u201cLast season we went into the last race 10th<\/sup> in points, and fell to 11th<\/sup> when the race was over,\u201d Packard said. \u201cThis year, we would like to finish solidly in the top 10 in points.\u201d\u00a0 Currently after one race, Packard sits 18th<\/sup> in the weekly Late Model standings at Thunder Road.\u00a0 Racing starts at 6:30 pm Thursday June 5, 2014.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, June 7, 2014<\/span>, Packard and the 9x Northstar Fireworks\/Packard Fuels team head to Riverside Speedway in Groveton, NH for the Riverside ACT 150 race.\u00a0 This will mark her return to this track since last season where she had some bad luck and tore her car up.\u00a0 \u201cThis is the closest track to Thunder Road that we are going to get,\u201d said Packard. \u201cIt\u2019s an interesting place, short yet wide, with two grooves for racing.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Presently sitting fourth in the ACT points, Packard hopes to continue to run well and stay in the top five in points.\u00a0 \u201cWe would like to finish in the top 10, to stay up in the points,\u201d Packard said.\u00a0 \u201cWith only six point\u2019s races left, it\u2019s important to finish strong each race.\u201d<\/p>\n
