{"id":13258,"date":"2014-06-06T14:42:39","date_gmt":"2014-06-06T18:42:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.maineracing.com\/wp\/?p=13258"},"modified":"2014-06-06T14:42:39","modified_gmt":"2014-06-06T18:42:39","slug":"granite-state-pro-stock-series-drivers-open-helmets-hearts-monadnock-speedway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/2014\/06\/granite-state-pro-stock-series-drivers-open-helmets-hearts-monadnock-speedway\/","title":{"rendered":"Granite State Pro Stock Series Drivers Open Their Helmets and Hearts at Monadnock Speedway"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_13259\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13259\" class=\"wp-image-13259 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.maineracing.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/GSPSS-drivers-during-the-Allen-Hinckley-helmet-collection.jpg\" alt=\"GSPSS drivers during the Allen Hinckley helmet collection\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/GSPSS-drivers-during-the-Allen-Hinckley-helmet-collection.jpg 320w, https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/GSPSS-drivers-during-the-Allen-Hinckley-helmet-collection-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13259\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GSPS photo<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Winchester, NH-\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Granite State Pro Stock Series drivers completed 100 laps at Monadnock Speedway <span data-term=\"goog_129921243\">Saturday<\/span> night, but what they did off the track may be more important.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The entire field of drivers in attendance wielded helmets in between local division feature events to raise money for 8 year-old Allen Hinckley, son of veteran Modified racer Les Hinckley.\u00a0 Allen just recently returned from a 17-day stay at Connecticut Children\u2019s Hospital and a recent two-week stay at Boston Children\u2019s Hospital where he underwent his third surgical procedure for a Congenital Arachnoid Cyst.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Arachnoid cysts are rare, and the cause of which are unknown.\u00a0 In Allen\u2019s case, the young boy had surgery to put a shunt and valve system in his head to relieve pressure to his brain.\u00a0 With this unfortunate situation, the family has spent time away from work and a large chunk of time in hospitals, putting a huge strain on the Hinckley family.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The GSPSS drivers were asked if they could help at Monadnock Speedway, and the drivers answered the call.\u00a0 Dressed in full gear, drivers grabbed their helmets and visited the crowd, gathering donations for the family.\u00a0 In just a short amount of time, the GSPSS took in $1,250.35 for the Hinckley family.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2013 series champion Mike O\u2019Sullivan was touched by the collection.\u00a0 \u201cI know Les pretty well and he is a good guy,\u201d O\u2019Sullivan stated.\u00a0 \u201cWe&#8217;ve had conversations about how racing is secondary to family, and wouldn&#8217;t sacrifice something for our boys, to race ourselves. I hope that Allen will get better, and pray for all the best for Les and his family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The support does not stop with the GSPSS.\u00a0 Seekonk Grand Prix proprietor Wayne Darling, a longtime race car owner, will open early this <span data-term=\"goog_129921244\">Saturday, June 7<\/span>, and donate all money taken in between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM to help the Hinckley family.\u00a0 Also, Saturday, June 7 at Sonny\u2019s Place, 349 Main St, Somers, CT., there will be a special event dubbed \u201cCome Support Allen\u201d with music, dancing, food, and beverages. Tickets are $25 per person.
