{"id":13598,"date":"2014-07-21T13:32:18","date_gmt":"2014-07-21T17:32:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.maineracing.com\/wp\/?p=13598"},"modified":"2014-07-21T13:32:18","modified_gmt":"2014-07-21T17:32:18","slug":"chris-bowie-grabs-emotional-late-model-victory-wiscasset-speedway-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/2014\/07\/chris-bowie-grabs-emotional-late-model-victory-wiscasset-speedway-2\/","title":{"rendered":"CHRIS BOWIE GRABS AN EMOTIONAL LATE MODEL VICTORY AT WISCASSET SPEEDWAY."},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_13599\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13599\" class=\"wp-image-13599 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.maineracing.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/LateModelTop3-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"LateModelTop3\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13599\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">photo by Peter Taylor<\/p><\/div>\n<p>by Lisa Maguire<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wiscasset Speedway underwent a makeover this past week.\u00a0 The back stretch wall was pushed back, making a bit more room on the back stretch at Maine&#8217;s fastest oval.\u00a0 Ken Minott, track promoter \/ announcer, said, \u201cIt\u2019s going to help the outside guy when they&#8217;re racing out of turn two onto the back stretch.\u00a0 It\u2019s going to give\u00a0them the room they needs so\u00a0they&#8217;re not squeezed against the wall.\u00a0 It will make for better side by side racing. We&#8217;ve got to thank Reno Excavation &amp; Paving of West Bath for all their hard work getting it\u00a0ready in just a week\u201d.\u00a0The new portion of track was put to the test <span data-term=\"goog_738923420\">on Saturday<\/span> when fans lined the grandstands to watch Group Two Division races.\u00a0 Late Model Sportsman, Strictly Streets, Mini Trucks, and Thunder 4\u2019s all raced.\u00a0 The flex race of the week was a non-point New England Four Cylinder Prostock feature.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Spotlighted race of the week was a forty-five lap Late Model Sportsman feature.\u00a0 The division came into the weekend still looking for its first repeat winner. There had been\u00a0six different winners in the first\u00a0six races. Starting on the pole for the main event was the #6 of Chris Bowie of New Gloucester.\u00a0 The #33 of Josh St Clair and the #15 of Nick Hinkley were behind him.\u00a0 During the opening lap, Josh St Clair passed Bowie on the outside of turn two.\u00a0 Bowie fought back and during lap two passed him\u00a0to reclaim the lead.\u00a0 Hinkley then passed St Clair during lap three for second and\u00a0Dresden&#8217;s Allen Moeller moved his #04 car up to third during lap four when St Clair went loose on the track.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Starting back in eleventh place was Josh&#8217;s younger brother Ryan St Clair.\u00a0 By lap eight, he had progressed into the top five.\u00a0 Then, during lap thirteen he pulled up to\u00a0pass Moeller on the outside of turn two for third.\u00a0 During the last ten laps, two minor cautions were called.\u00a0 However, Bowie was able to successfully hold off the pack, and raced his #6 Electricity Maine car under the checkered in first place.\u00a0 Hinkley placed second.\u00a0 Ryan St Clair took third.<\/p>\n<p>This was Bowie\u2019s first win at Wiscasset Speedway.\u00a0 It was also the first race he had won in ten years, as he had taken a hiatus from racing.\u00a0 Bowie was also the seventh different winner in seven Late Model Sportsman Division races.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Victory Lane, Bowie could barely keep his emotions in check, \u201cWe worked our butt off trying to figure out this track!\u00a0 I need to thank my crew.\u00a0 I also want to thank my sponsor, Electricity Maine.\u00a0 They have made this possible.\u201d\u00a0 Bowie also said, \u201cI have found my new home here at Wiscasset.\u201d\u00a0 He spoke of the friendliness of not only the track owners, Richard and Vanessa Jordan, but also the friendliness of the staff.\u00a0 He also spoke of fans, and how he appreciated them cheering him on.\u00a0 There was a section of the grandstands filled with his co-workers, family, and friends.<\/p>\n<p>Bowie was eleventh in points coming into the race with 120 points.\u00a0 The point leader was Nick Hinkley with 266 points.\u00a0 Second in points was Will Collins with 246 points.\u00a0 In third was Chris Thorne with 242 points.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An action-packed twenty-five lap Strictly Street feature was next.\u00a0 The #26 of Corey Morgan started on the pole, with a rare front row chance.\u00a0 Behind him were the #6 of Mike Brown and the #85 of Jairet Harrison of Freeport.\u00a0 When the green flag flew Morgan got a good jump off the start and quickly gained a two car lead.\u00a0 Harrison passed Brown for second place.\u00a0 Things settled down for a bit until there was a scramble\u00a0on the track during lap six. The #40 Mac Hannon\u00a0and Mike Brown made contact heading into turn one.\u00a0 Several other cars were collected in the jumble including the #32 of Tasha Dyer, the #24 of Jonathon Emerson, the #83 of Dan Brown, and the #14 of Dave Brannon.\u00a0 All received damage but only Mike Brown and Dave Brannon could not return to racing.<\/p>\n<p>When racing action resumed the #43 of Ben Erskine passed Harrison on the outside of turn two for second.\u00a0 The #83 of Dan Brown, who took minor damage in the lap six wreck,\u00a0passed Harrison on the back stretch during lap fifteen for third. Just a lap later, Erskine pulled out of line on the front stretch with a mechanical problem, handing the third position back to Harrison.\u00a0Race leaders remained constant until the conclusion of the race.\u00a0 Morgan placed first.\u00a0 Dan Brown took second.\u00a0 Rounding out the top three was Harrison.<\/p>\n<p>Morgan said, \u201cI got pretty lucky.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think I could have made another lap.\u00a0 My oil pressure dropped and the engine started smoking by the end.\u00a0 I want to thank my wife, Missy, Joe, Shawn, Calvin, and Josh.\u00a0 I would also like to thank my sponsor, The Sign Store.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This was Morgan\u2019s third win of the season in Strictly Streets, and his sixth top five finish.\u00a0 Morgan was tied for first in points with Zach Emerson.\u00a0 Both had 304 points coming into <span data-term=\"goog_738923421\">Saturday\u2019s<\/span> race.\u00a0 Third in points was Tasha Dyer with 278.\u00a0 Zach Emerson did not race <span data-term=\"goog_738923422\">Saturday<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A quick, straight-forward fifteen lap Mini Truck feature was next.\u00a0 Starting at the pole was the #17 of Matt Weil.\u00a0 The #55 of Larry Marshall and the #22 of Jeff Schmidt were behind him.\u00a0\u00a0 During the opening lap, the #12 of Jerry McKenna passed Schmidt on the outside for third.\u00a0 McKenna then advanced up the track, and during the following lap, passed Marshall on the inside for second.<\/p>\n<p>During lap six the #14 of Herb Farrar passed Schmidt on the inside for third.\u00a0 Then, during lap ten the #1 of Matt Curtis passed Farrar on the outside coming out of turn four.\u00a0 Matt Weil drove his Camden Exxon truck across the finish in first.\u00a0 Jerry McKenna of Milton, who was point leader with 334 points coming into <span data-term=\"goog_738923423\">Saturday\u2019s<\/span> race, placed second.\u00a0 Matt Curtis of Freeport took home the 3rd place trophy.\u00a0 This makes Weil\u2019s second win in Mini Trucks this season.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Flex race of the week was a twenty-five lap New England four Cylinder Prostock feature.\u00a0 This race was not for points.\u00a0 Starting on point was the #24 of Jeff Prindall.\u00a0 The #38 of Ryan Hayes and the #54 of Kamren Knowles were behind him.\u00a0 It was a tight race, with the leaders racing in a pack for position.\u00a0 Prindall and Hayes raced for the lead for seven laps.\u00a0 Then, during lap seven, Hayes was able to complete the pass and take the lead on the backstretch.<\/p>\n<p>Prindall and Hayes still raced furiously for position, then during lap ten they both moved to pass the #7 of Jerry Bailey.\u00a0 Prindall took the inside track, and Hayes took the outside track.\u00a0 Prindall made contact with Jerry Bailey and spun coming out of turn four, narrowly missing the front stretch wall.\u00a0 Both Jerry Bailey and Prindall were sent to the back, but Jerry Bailey declared \u201cGentleman\u2019s Rule\u201d, saying he was responsible for the contact.\u00a0 Prindall was able to keep his second place position.\u00a0 On the ensuing restart Prindall passed Hayes for the lead.\u00a0 Hayes fought back and during lap eleven passed Prindall on the inside of turn two for the lead.<\/p>\n<p>During lap fourteen the #14 of Bob Patten headed to the inside and passed Knowles for third.\u00a0 For eight laps Patten and Kamren Knowles battled for third.\u00a0 Then, Kamren Knowles got the inside track and passed Patten on the inside of turn one for third.\u00a0 Hayes placed first for his second straight win.\u00a0 Prindall took runner-up honors.\u00a0 Coming in third was Kamren Knowles.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the evening under the bright lights of Wiscasset was a twenty lap Thunder 4 feature.\u00a0 Starting on the pole was the #1 of Jeff Davis.\u00a0 Behind him were the #13 of Cody Tribbet and the #31 of Leandra Martin.\u00a0 Off the start Tribbet was passing Davis when the pair made contact on the track.\u00a0 Both went to the back.\u00a0 Martin moved to first.\u00a0 The #14 of Robert McDonald moved to second.\u00a0 The #33 of Trey Brown moved to third.<\/p>\n<p>On the ensuing restart Brown passed McDonald for second on turn one.\u00a0 The #5 of Ryan Chadwick started in eleventh place.\u00a0 By lap two he had advanced up the track and passed McDonald for third.\u00a0 Chadwick\u00a0continued his charge\u00a0forward\u00a0and passed Brown on the outside of the back stretch during lap four for second and quickly\u00a0looked for his opportunity to take the lead.\u00a0 Martin held Chadwick off until lap nine, then Chadwick moved to the outside and passed her\u00a0coming out of turn four.<\/p>\n<p>Also starting at the back was the #11 of Kevin Sherman.\u00a0\u00a0He started in tenth, but wasted little time moving to the top five by lap nine.\u00a0 During lap ten Sherman headed to the outside and passed both Brown and Martin to take second.\u00a0\u00a0The former champ\u00a0challenged Chadwick for the lead, but Chadwick held him off and gained a car length lead during lap twelve.\u00a0 Chadwick drove his K&amp;A Property Services car across the finish line in first.\u00a0 Sherman placed second, but his car was later disqualified in post race inspection. As a result Trey Brown took home second place, and Cody Tribbet placed third.<\/p>\n<p>Chadwick has been dominant this season, winning six out of seven Thunder 4 races this year.\u00a0 Coming into <span data-term=\"goog_738923424\">Saturday\u2019s<\/span> race he was point leader with 348 points.\u00a0 Second in points was Cody Tribbet with 262 points.\u00a0 Third in points was Trey Brown with 238 points.<\/p>\n<p>Wiscasset Speedway resumes racing action on <span data-term=\"goog_738923425\">July 26, 2014<\/span> with its group one line up of divisions: Napa Super Street, Prostock, Outlaw Mini, and New England 4 Cylinder Prostocks.\u00a0 There is no flex race this coming week.\u00a0 Wiscasset Speedway is celebrating its 45<sup>th<\/sup> Birthday.\u00a0 There will be giveaways and cupcakes for the fans.\u00a0 Current drivers, and drivers from the past will be on hand to help celebrate.\u00a0 There will be a special ceremony on the track for the drivers during intermission.\u00a0 Later, after the races are concluded, fireworks will light up the sky in a birthday celebration.\u00a0 Pit gates open at <span data-term=\"goog_738923426\">2:00 PM<\/span>.\u00a0 Grandstand gates open at <span data-term=\"goog_738923427\">4:00 PM<\/span>.\u00a0 Racing begins at <span data-term=\"goog_738923428\">6:00 PM<\/span>.\u00a0 Admission is $5.00 for adults and children aged seven and older.\u00a0 Kids six and under are free.\u00a0 Pit admission is $20.00.
