{"id":14392,"date":"2015-02-21T00:37:46","date_gmt":"2015-02-21T05:37:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.maineracing.com\/wp\/?p=14392"},"modified":"2015-02-21T00:38:21","modified_gmt":"2015-02-21T05:38:21","slug":"14392","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/2015\/02\/14392\/","title":{"rendered":"Packard Leaves Florida with a 16th Place Finish in the American Racer Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_14343\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14343\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14343\" src=\"http:\/\/www.maineracing.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/dfhfyhfg.jpg\" alt=\"photo by RPM 360\" width=\"240\" height=\"159\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-14343\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">photo by RPM 360<\/p><\/div>\n<p>EAST MONTPELIER, Vt. \u2013 Excited to be back in the race car, Packard rolled the 9x Northstar Fireworks\/Packard Fuels car out of the hauler for the first practice of the 2015 American Canadian Tour season.\u00a0 \u201cWe have never been racing down south with the ACT car and New Smyrna was a different track than what we have up north,\u201d said Packard. \u201cThe track was really fast, but a lot of fun to drive and a great experience for me and the team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With the sun shining and warm temperatures, Packard began getting acclimated with New Smyrna Speedway.\u00a0 Since her fellow competitors already had an advantage of practicing and racing 100 laps the day before, Packard spent the first practice learning the track and dialing the car in.\u00a0 \u201cWe were a little behind by not racing on Sunday, and all the things that we fought in practice <span data-term=\"goog_939127229\">on Monday<\/span>; the other teams had already been able to overcome,\u201d Packard said, \u201cbut we spent the day gaining on the car and getting it ready for the race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Starting 3<sup>rd<\/sup> in her heat race <span data-term=\"goog_939127230\">on Monday<\/span>, Packard finished in the 6<sup>th<\/sup> position which would secure her a 17<sup>th<\/sup> starting position in the first race of the American Racer Challenge Cup.\u00a0 When the green flag fell, Packard settled in and raced her race, taking the opportunity to continue to learn the track.\u00a0 At halfway, Packard found herself in 15<sup>th<\/sup> position, continuing to pick her way through the field and avoiding wrecks to finish the first race in 12<sup>th<\/sup> place.\u00a0 \u201cWe had a really clean race;
