{"id":1441,"date":"2010-06-15T18:43:05","date_gmt":"2010-06-15T18:43:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/maineracer.com\/wp\/?p=1441"},"modified":"2010-06-15T18:43:05","modified_gmt":"2010-06-15T18:43:05","slug":"folsom-claims-checkered-flag-in-top-class-at-unity-raceway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/2010\/06\/folsom-claims-checkered-flag-in-top-class-at-unity-raceway\/","title":{"rendered":"Folsom claims checkered flag in top class at Unity Raceway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Unity, Maine \u2013 David  Folsom I of  \t\t\tSkowhegan broke a victory lane dry spell in come-from-behind style  \t\t\tSaturday night in the headline 35-lap Late Model feature race at  \t\t\tUnity Raceway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\" \/>While Folsom ran  \t\t\twith the leaders throughout the event he at one point yielded the  \t\t\tpacesetting position to reigning track champion Frank Moulton of  \t\t\tBurnham. But Folsom was up to the task and the veteran competitor  \t\t\twho first raced at Unity some three decades ago outgunned the young  \t\t\treigning king and drove to victory lane for well-deserved accolades.<br \/>\n<br \/><!--more-->\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Moulton held on to  \t\t\tearn runner-up honors in front of Mike Hodgkins of Jefferson, a  \t\t\tmulti-time former track champion making his first appearance in four  \t\t\tyears. Hodgkins charged back from the rear of the pack after an  \t\t\tearly caution waved when the returning kingpin was spun from behind.  \t\t\tEd \u201cFubby\u2019 Drake probably passed more cars than any of his rivals in  \t\t\ta fourth-place run. Markus Lowe of Jackson rounded out the top five.  Seventh-place  \t\t\tfinisher Jeff Burgess of Fairfield  was also a notable contender and  \t\t\tearly frontrunner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Visiting NELCAR  \t\t\tLegends Cars chased third-generation oval track competitor Bobby  \t\t\tTimmons of Windham  under the  \t\t\tcheckered flag. Kevin \u2018K-Man\u2019 Hutchens of East  \t\t\tWaterboro led the first half of the 20-lapper before  \t\t\tTimmons was able to work his way from the eighth starting spot into  \t\t\tthe lead. Hutchens turned back an extended challenge by Durham\u2019s Evan  Beaulieu to claim runner-up  \t\t\thonors. Beaulieu got the third-place trophy, with Topsham\u2019s Bobby  \t\t\tWeymouth and Alan Smith of Lincoln  rounding out the top five.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Nate Weston  \t\t\tcontinued his early-season domination of the Racin\u2019 Paper Super Street  division, staying  \t\t\tup front throughout the 20-lap main event. Norridgewock\u2019s Shawn  \t\t\tAustin spent several laps racing on the outside of Weston, even  \t\t\tinching ahead at times, but a late spin that didn\u2019t produce a  \t\t\tcaution flag cost the challenger any shot at a trophy. Nick Huff of  \t\t\tOrrington claimed runner-up honors, with Winslow\u2019s Mike Fortier  \t\t\tclaiming a career-best third-place finish in the race. Austin rebounded  for  \t\t\tfourth, in front of Donnie York, who ran better than his fifth-place  \t\t\tfinish would indicate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Corey Walker of Augusta romped to  a  \t\t\twire-to-wire victory in the 20-lap Uncle Henry\u2019s Late Model Pro Four  \t\t\tfeature. Former division champion Steve Rackliff of Starks was the  \t\t\tbest of the rest, chasing  \t\t\tWalker  \t\t\tthroughout the main event for the class. Cary Davis of Solon worked  \t\t\ttraffic well and claimed third-place hardware in front of \t\t\t<span> <\/span>Skowhegan\u2019s Bryan Lancaster  \t\t\tand Madison\u2019s  Mike Mason.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Benton\u2019s  Lance Chapman jumped out to a healthy early lead  \t\t\tand outran early-season dominator Reggie Bickford of Oakland to the  checkered  \t\t\tflag in Monster Energy Drink Monsta Mini Feature action. Chapman and  \t\t\tBickford were joined on the podium by Skowhegan\u2019s Dylan Lancaster,  \t\t\twho fought off a late challenge by reigning division champion<span> <\/span>Mike Wilson of Chelsea.  Bob Grady of Pittston rounded out the  \t\t\ttop five.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Cornville\u2019s Bard  \t\t\tBosworth \u2013 the most prolific feature winner last year in Unity  \t\t\tRaceway\u2019s Teen Thunder class \u2013 picked up his first feature victory  \t\t\tin an adult class while holding off veteran racer Zach Audet of New  \t\t\tSharon in the Aable Auto Parts Flyin\u2019 4 division main event.  \t\t\tBosworth was flawless while setting then pace, especially when  \t\t\tdealing with lapped traffic. Skowhegan\u2019s Shdaow Folsom drove to the  \t\t\tfinal podium finishing position, in front of Augusta\u2019s Cody Sleeper  \t\t\tand Brian Nickerson of Noridgewock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Samantha Letourneau   \t\t\tof Benton  cruised to an  \t\t\timpressive victory on the combined feature race for Waterville Oaks  \t\t\tLadies and Geo &#038; Sons Teen Thunder divisions. Norridgewock\u2019s  Austin  \t\t\tClemons was the top-finishing teen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">The 25-lap Enduro  \t\t\trace to wrap up the night\u2019s competition was won by Lucas Porter<span> <\/span>of Norridgewock.
