CONCORD, NC (May 14, 2007) – In racing, the chase for a championship isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon. Nobody knows that better than four-time Busch North (now Busch East) Champion Andy Santerre. And that is exactly what he and the Andy Santerre Motorsports team have on their minds going into the Busch East double-header event, which will begin at Elko Speedway (MN) on Friday May 18th and continue at Iowa Speedway (IA) on Sunday May 20th. Both of which happen to be new tracks for the Busch East series. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

“We’ve only done double-header events once before in the past, and it has been awhile,” said ASM owner Andy Santerre. “I won one of them and finished fourth the next night, so the only time in history that the Busch East series has done this, we did pretty well. I am hoping that will continue into the next double-header event.” <\/p>\n

Santerre will head to the Midwest with two entries, the Casella #44, driven by Sean Caisse, and the #1 Chevrolet for DEI Development Driver Jeffrey Earnhardt. It will be the first time that either Caisse or Earnhardt will have set eyes on the tracks, but Santerre doesn’t foresee that as being a problem. <\/p>\n

“It’s going to be tough with the West guys there. It is going to be twice as hard to win. We just have to go there and be prepared. Neither Sean nor Jeffrey has ever seen the track, but if we do what we did at Greenville and at the New Hampshire test, we should be strong contenders. We have two good drivers and four good cars. I think that we should be in good shape.” <\/p>\n

ASM driver Sean Caisse is looking forward to the opportunity to get back on the track as well, especially after the impressive start to his sophomore season under the leadership of Santerre. <\/p>\n

“I am definitely excited,” said Caisse. “I was really pumped up to start the year off with a good finish. My goal going into this race was to finish in the top five to keep the season going strong. I think this next race is going to be a testament for the championship hunt. The double-header deal could work both ways; it could be an either really good weekend or a not so great weekend. If we just keep the fenders on, we should be in good shape.” <\/p>\n

In 2006 Caisse put up some impressive numbers. Now, a year later, he finds himself in a similar situation, already second in the point standings. He may have entered his second event first in the standings last year, but second for right now is just fine with him. <\/p>\n

“Just looking back at last year, we won three races and we finished second in points,” added Caisse. “I would rather give away those wins and win the championship. If we show up with a third-place car, I am going to settle for what I can do and not push the issue. Whenever you push the issue, stuff goes wrong. It is going to be my mentality for the whole season, and I think it will pay off with these two new tracks, Elko and Iowa.” <\/p>\n
