EAST MONTPELIER, Vt. \u2013 After leaving the American Canadian Tour season opener last weekend with the car relatively unscathed, Emily Packard and the 9x Northstar Fireworks\/Packard Fuels team made a mid-week decision to add the Governor’s Cup 150 to their season schedule.\u00a0 “After Oxford we talked it over and decided that we would benefit from running the Lee race,” said Packard.\u00a0 “Last week was a learning curve, and we believe that running this week would help us to continue to gel and work towards getting the car more comfortable for me.”<\/p>\n

The 19-year old returns to the 3\/8 mile track for only the third time in her late model career, where she has had two top-15 finishes.\u00a0 This year she hopes to better her best finish of twelfth, and is looking for a top-5 finish.\u00a0 “Last year I finished fifteenth,” Packard said. “Hopefully, this year I can finish in the top-5, and if not, at least a top-10 would be great.\u00a0 I like running Lee, I am really glad that we decided to add this one to our race schedule this season.\u00a0 Although I haven’t had the success at Lee USA Speedway that I would like, I feel confident going into this race that we are going to have a really great car, so I am excited to be racing this weekend.”<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Emily and the team will take advantage of the practice time, having a whole day to work on the set up and getting the car dialed in.\u00a0 “Practice will be important this weekend,” said Packard.\u00a0 “Last weekend we spent adjusting the car from a set-up that Joey (Pole) usually ran to something that worked for me, and we would like to continue the momentum from that.\u00a0 This will also give us a chance to work on communication and get us more use to the input from the Polewarczyk’s at the track.\u00a0 We have some races on our schedule coming up, Thunder Road and Devil’s Bowl Speedway, and running this weekend will help us to get the car set-up figured out put us in a better position as we head to those tracks.”<\/p>\n

Sunday the team will only have one final American Canadian Tour practice, which is set for noon<\/span> time.\u00a0 ACT heats are scheduled to begin at 1:30pm<\/span>, with the Governor’s Cup 150 slated for a 4 pm<\/span> start.\u00a0 If you can’t get out to the track this weekend, don\u2019t forget to follow along on social media for weekend updates from the race track.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
