Hillsboro, NH– Jake Matheson Racing clinched the INEX\/US Legend Cars Young Lions
\nnational championship title on Oct. 27 at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
\n\u201cLast season we set the goal to be a contender for the 2018 national title,\u201d Matheson said.
\n\u201cIt took a lot of effort, but we made it.\u201d He added, \u201cWe went into the weekend ranked third
\nbehind two very tough competitors. So, I had my work cut out for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Matheson and his team are accustomed to hard work, having raced his SignWorks New
\nEngland Legend Car in more than 30 races at 11 different tracks across the country. During
\nthe course of the season, he earned six feature wins and over 20 top five finishes. In
\naddition, Jake is the 2018 Legend Car Champion at Seekonk Speedway in Massachusetts,
\nwhere he ran their weekly Fast Fridays Series.<\/p>\n
\nAt the end of the regular season, Matheson was third in the national point standings. His
\nbid for the title would come down to the championship race at The Bullring. More than 100
\ndrivers from the U.S. and abroad gathered in the Nevada desert to compete for INEX titles.
\n\u201cI knew I had to finish ahead of the other two points leaders to secure the championship\u201d,
\nexplained Matheson. Patience was key in the caution filled race that took more than hour to
\ncomplete. Matheson maintained the third position for many laps, waiting for a chance to
\npass the #97 car of Daniel Silvestri. The opening came with just two laps left to go in the
\nrace. Matheson passed the #97 car to finish second in the race and to clinch the #1
\nposition in the country.<\/p>\n
